What am I doing wrong??

I snapped a bolt while changing my thermostat. So I used those reverse thredded EZ Out extractors on it. I drilled a hole into the center of the bolt and then attatched the extractor bit to my drill... The extractor seemed to just grind away inside the bolt. It snagged a couple times, and I thought, "Here it is, it's going to come out now." But of course it eventually just ground free again and kept spinning. So what am I doing wrong here and what else can I try? It doesn't help that a wire harness makes it really hard to get a drill in there in the first place. There isn't much bolt left. Should I just get a huge drill bit and blast the bolt into nothing?

When I've used EZ outs, I only used a wrench or "T" to turn them. I believe if a drill is ued, it will turn the EZ out too quickly and not allow it to "bite" into the broken bolt.

Okay, I'll try that. Hopefully I haven't worn out my chances already. I've got it soaking in WD-40 today. I'll try again tomorrow

I snapped teh same bolt as you did recently. Then i snapped the EZ out in the bolt, trying to get it out. Keep us updated on how it goes.

I have never had an EZ-out work on a bolt that snapped because the threads were corroded, only sheared bolts. If the back of the hole is visible just drill it out and re-tap it. Otherwise, chances are, you will end up like Jahoo88. Broken EZ-outs are very bad, harder than **** and you will probably need a carbide bit to drill it out.

Another possibility is to use a left hand drill bit. Sometimes they will grab and unscrew what's left of the bolt.
