Just got my 88 n/a about a month ago...just behind the air pump there is an assembly with a rod and linkage... there is also what looks to be a sensor with two wire running off of it. What is this sensor?

Before I get flamed...yes, I am a newb...without knowing what this may be, I don't really know how to search for it. ..I already downloaded the fsm, but my comp is in the shop and I'm on a loaner that doesn't want to work with pdf's so please help a brother out.

Btw, the reason I ask is because both these wires are corroded, one to the point of falling off. I want to replace the sensor; or not if you guys tell me I don't need it.
