Question What is this for?

Sure I have an 1982 1st Gen, but my engine is second Gen, so I'm asking here!

This thing is on the engine down the front corner!

Theres a metal rod which hooks into a hole in the engine elsewhere and just sits there... I'm wondering what this actually does?

More pics here: http://rx-7.pw.cx/photos/2septExhaus...0is%20this/tn/

Any light on this would be great! The metal rod just sits in the hole... I knocked it out by accident and didnt think it looked too secure... maybe its not even meant to be in there?

Cheers!!

It "should" be attached to the throttle system, near your TPS. When you open the throttle up, it moves the connector putting more oil into the injector running to the top of your block. Don't take it off unless you plan on running premix.

Btw, yes, it is the OMP.

If you go premix and are in highschool or college, the secret: Walmart Supertech TCW-3 $1.14/16oz.

Hmm well the top of it is not connected to anything... it just sits in a little hole in the engine block ! And there is nothing nearby that it appears to need to connect to.... (see following pic).

I'll get some better overview photos so I can show you everything, this pump sounds pretty important.

At the moment, with the end stuck in that hole, its holding the arm up about halfway...

Cheers

Looks like it's rigged open somewhat so it's injecting some oil. So at low RPMs it's injecting too much, and at high RPMs it's injecting too little.

What sort of effect do you think this may have on the engine?

Ahh I see now, that is a bit of a worry.... What do these vacuum lines do? Haynes manual is a bit vague on them... only points out where they should be..

Bit of a nightmare this project,

Cheerio,

hopefully its excess create-a-gasket. the effects of this situation can be devastating, Not enough oil to lube the seals enough will=blown motor

premix until you get it fixed...or forever, whichever is shorter.

get some pics of the rest of the engine bay, maybe there are other goodies in there worth seeing

If I am not mistaken: Doesn't a FC engine have 4 oil metering pump lines coming off the OMP... I only see two on yours.

Yeah the manual says there should be 4... a mechanic had a look at my engine and nearly cried hehe. I have some more images of the injection unit here:

http://rx7.pw.cx/photos/throttle/tn/index.html

I will get some more images overall later, I need all the help I can get, thanks so far, first thing tonight ill look at hooking the OMP up to the throttle system.

Cheers,

I did a test manually moving the OMP rod, and it seems to be putting a good amount of oil into the engine at all times.... so it wont die from lack of lubrication... but I reckon it will suffer at low RPM because of it.

I had a look at hooking it up to my throttle - the problem is that the throttle wants to move 2 inches up and down, but the OMP rod will only move about 1 inch, limiting the throttle... so I'm thinking i'll leave it as is now, but add in some oil with the fuel once a month... What sort of oil should I premix into the tank??

Another query! Vacuum tubes... the ones that are meant to be on my intake... What do they do exactly? My intake has been puttied up and painted over... Not too sure what this is going to affect, thoughts would be great!

Thanks for the heads up!

Three things:

1. Put the metering oil pump rod back.
2. My god, get rid of those 1000CC primaries!! The stock primary/secondary injectors are 460CC. You are pushing in WAY too much fuel. Go back to 460CC, then use an S-AFC to lean the engine out.
3. Your signature violates forum rules. Max size is 460x200 @ 20K in size. Please change it.
