went to see a turbo II need advice

ok car is a red 1987 Turbo 2 body is in fair condition it has 120000+ miles on it the good: engine was said to have over 100 compression front and rear engine has rebuilt turbo car comes with a parts car for an extra 350 dollars that fixes all my body stuff +all the interior stuff car is only 1800$ now the bad....and where the questions come in
1.sunroof tilts up but only slides back 1/4"(easy fix?)

2.the car needs an ox sensor the car has a misfire(i think) when it was started he reved it uo to like 3000 and you heard baaaaaaaaabupbaaaaaaaaaabupbaaaaaaaaabup same with at idle this went away once car was warmed up he said this is because of the ox sensor????

3.clutch does not engage untill about halfway down he said this is normal but......?????

4.bumper doesnt line up with the hood on the right side he said its an easy fix is it???looks like the bumper was pushed in alittle he says from pushing it around are these that easy to push in?

5.interior is a rats nest but again thats what he parts car is for

anyway seems like a good deal cars are going on the classifides for like double that what do u guys think????

I would be concerned about #2 and #4. First, HE told you what the compression was, or you did the test yourself. I wouldn't believe him...do your own test. The bumper doesn't line up with the hood from pushing the car around!? LMAO! Thats just about the lamest one I've heard yet. Chances are the car was in an accident, the frame bent, and the bumper was replaced without straightening the frame. I would be very careful about buying that car. At least do a proper compression check yourself.

That's high mileage for a turbo.
Budget for a swap or rebuild soon.
If you have the money, time, and skill, it would be a good project.

Remember, on these cars the money mounts up in a hurry when you need parts/repairs. If your starting @ $1800, I'd get a compression test done. If you can't do it yourself, contact someone locally that can. A simple compression gauge will work if you remove the check valve. Search and you will find the exact procedure. That would be a major concern as the factory rebuilt engines are about $1900.
Suspension parts are not difficult to replace when worn, but if the frame is bent another major concern. Once again it's better to have someone knowledgeable to do the checking. If it is such a simple fix, have the seller fix the bumber before you purchase the car.
By the way, definitely not the O2 sensor causing the problem.

#1. Normal for older FCs. Clean and lubricate the sunroof assembly. Also, keep in mind that the sunroof had a feature where you hit the button once, and the sunroof slid back a bit. Then you released and depressed the button again, and it slid back the rest of they way.

#2. Pull the codes, if the O2 is acting up, the ECU will catch it. http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/article...odes/main.html

#3. Halfway down? Or halfway up? Either way, this is probably fine.

#4. Beware, this could be indicative of bigger issues.

It could be as easy as a clean and "rebuild", but it could include replacing one or both of the guides.

O2 sensor has nothing to do with the accelerated warm-up system.
He's lying or has no clue how it works.

3.clutch does not engage untill about halfway down he said this is normal but......?????
Inspect the clutch hydraulics.
If they are original, they will need to be replaced very soon.
http://fc3spro.com/TECH/PROBLEMS/DT/CLUTCH/cmaster.htm

A quick test is to press the clutch pedal in and make sure the clutch doesn't engage over the next minute or so.  It helps to have the engine running and transmission in gear - if the hydraulics are failing, the clutch will slowly start to engage.

4.bumper doesnt line up with the hood on the right side he said its an easy fix is it???looks like the bumper was pushed in alittle he says from pushing it around are these that easy to push in?
BEWARE of any signs of an accident.
The bumper cover skin is made of pliable urethane, but I'd worry about underlying damage to the rest of the car.
AUTOMATICALLY start dealing to get the price down due to this kind of damage.

5.interior is a rats nest but again thats what he parts car is for
That's your call.

anyway seems like a good deal cars are going on the classifides for like double that what do u guys think????
CONFIRM the engine, transmission, drivetrain, and brakes are in good shape.  I wouldn't pay more than $1,000 MAX if any of those parts need to be rebuilt or replaced.
With the trashed interior, I wouldn't pay more than $1,000 in the first place.  This hints the car was not maintained properly - get the damn price down.

Don't let the asking prices fool you.
We've gotten good running FC turbos down between $500 to $1,000 range in better shape than what you are describing.
By the description, the owners isn't up-front with you, and I would offer $1,000 for the whole deal or turn around and walk away.
The parts are does look like a deal for you, but you're getting rid of a headache for the owner right now.

I'll second the notion that the cost of keeping a FC running, especially a car that "needs some TLC".

My car, which I bought for $3000 has required another $1000 investment (buying used parts and paying wholesale) to fix the major issues, and that is not modifying the car (though I did replace the necessary parts with "upgrades"). The car is drivable, but I am finding that affording all of the fixes that I need to have it running properly and reliable is becoming quite a stretch, and I bought one that was in way better condition than you're describing.

If you are planning on "fixing up" the car, it might be a good deal, though the bumper issue bothers me as well, but definately start dealing down on the price a little due to the condition.

On thing about the bumper cover...It's just urathane supported by a thin metal frame. Often, sitting in the sun causes them to warp and sag, and if the metal strip underneath has rusted away (very common) then weird things can happen. The owner does not have to volunteer that the car was in an accident, but if you ask, he has to legally tell you (at least in Canada he does).

Might want to also check out http://www.aaroncake.net/buy1.htm

just a heads up on owning one of these cars. like mentioned before, it takes some dough to keep them going. well, in my case it does.

my 88 seemed to be in very good condition when purchased in 02. had only 82k on it. long story short, my car spends more time at the shop than on the road. but i'll be honest with you, there is a reason i still have it.

I hear that's a VW thing, I'm driving a 95 JettaIII GLS right now, cause....well...my car is in the shop. The check engine light goes on and off frequently but my VW informants say don't worry about it.
