hmm well anytime a welder is near your *** is bad, so avoid that, if your referring to oh say welding the differential mount in place well i dunno, heard good things

POSI? Posi is just a lsd.. You mean a spool.. A spool isn't for a street car..

it's not so much posi as both tires engaged at all times. it will make it so that your back end will slide out easier when cornering because it won't allow the the tires to spin at different speeds. if your goal is the make the back end slide around more, then go for it. but if you want any sort of handling, leave it open.

a welded rear end hurts... but if ur into that sorta thing, I recomend to get someone else to do the welding for you, it is awfoly hard to get the welder in at the right angel by yourself...
but whatever rocks your boat

How is the angle weird? You rip the diff apart and do it.. If you want to do this, you're better off just buying a spool..

If you are going to be using the car on the track then you should weld the diff but if you are going to be driving around on the street I wouldnt, it makes things difficult expecially when parking.

Dont do it.. Get a factory LSD.. Soooooo much better

Linkon locking, or welding your diff is popular with offroaders, but.. thats becuase they go off road, and theres not enough traction to the tires to **** **** up.. Thats why people have air lockers, they lock the diff for offroading, but than are able to be disingaged for street driving. unless your car is on a drag strip for 99% of its life, than dont do it.

Take it from someone what has experienced it 1st hand.. dont do this. If the car is strictly a drag-only car, and you cant afford a good locker or spool, then I guess it is doable. If you are driving the car on the street at all, DO NOT DO THIS. Your rear wheels will hop and chirp at every turn, and it will do nothing but make you miserable and make the car more unsafe.

That's very bad advice. Welding the diff forces both wheels to spin at the same rate, even on corners where you NEED the inside wheel to turn slower then the outisde wheel. Ever driven a go-kart with a solid axel? Notice how the tire skid and bounce along during corners? That's what would happen if you welded the diff on a street car. Imagine taking a turn and having the back end bounce and screach every time. Not to mention the obvious safety issues as much of the traction is lost in the rear.

DO NOT weld the diff unless you intend on making a track-only drag car.

Positraction (or "posi") is an old brand name (by GM?) referring to a type of limited slip diff (LSD). Welding a diff solid does NOT make it LSD in the least.

Now, just to throw fuel on the fire, if the welding in your dad's Jeep broke, then it was done wrong. Period. Plenty of off roaders and drag racers weld up diffs and have few issues.

If the original poster want's better traction at the strip, they should look into getting an LSD, preferably torsion. Look at the Miata units. If they are serious about dragging, then they should look into the various types of locking diffs (ie. Detroit lockers). But any of these will require fab work to make it fit.

Yea, but wouldnt a clutch type diff with a stronger lockup be just as good? Especially for drag racing.
