welding cracked rear iron

thoughts? rear iron cracked by the dowel. i was thinking it would be cheaper to do rather than to find a used one and porting it again, also i was thinking they could add more material to make it stronger.

You have nothing to lose by trying but time and money. Most certainly the iron will need to be machined afterwards. You could end up spending several hundred dollars...

i dont see why it wouldnt work, i saw on an old hotrod show they broke a tranny bolt ear off of a 440 and it showed how they welded it back together. as long as someone who knows what the hell they are doing does it, i bet it will end up fine

If it's a high horsepower car (350+ rwhp) I wouldn't risk it.

I was able to purchase a new rear iron for my 88 T2 from a specific dealer for $400.00. The new ones for the 13B have the same reinforcements as the rear iron on the FD. If its in your budget, my opinion is new is going to be better than repaired.
I can see you spending at least a couple of hundred bucks on welding and machine work.

You can PM me and I will dig up the number of the dealer who took care of this for me. BTW that price included shipping.
