Weird stuff. I cant figure out why
Whats new guys, I have a 90 GXL. Here is the latest interesting stuff that I found with my car
For the past year, I've been running around with gutted stock cats with stock y pipe and RB and stock mufflers. It produced some nice power, but there was something that hits me everytime. Everytime I shift between gear, most noticeable from 1st to 2nd, car would produce a violent jerk. I can feel I loose a lot of acceleration right after that. Car starts to pick back up to speed right after.
Then it all changed today after I replaced the stock y pipe with a RB unit and a bonez high flow cat. Overall I noticed I lost a little power, I can really feel it when I bunch it in 5th. But there was something different that i felt also. While I was doing the g-tech run, when i shifted through the gears. The car dont jerk anymore. The shift is like real smooth. I dont think my driving style changed just like that. Is that something with the way the powerband is set up with and without cat or what is it? I cant figure it out.
As for the g-tech time, I didnt lose much compare to the old leaky gutted cats

knowledge junkie
ahh, the wonderful deceleration system
Several pieces make it up. It's designed to provide smooth shifting and prevent jerks as you tap the gas and barely let off.
I'm guessing you disconnected the tube that bolts into the catalytic converter? That'll do it

Are you talking about the airpipe? I disconnected it for a little while when I had gutted cats, then I put it back in. Today when the cat was put in, the mechanic took it out and put it back in again. Is it currently hooked up now my car is shifting smooth? What am i suppose to get? Ahh i have a new cat, plaese dont tell me i've been driving with no air in that thing......
