Weird noise on startup. Can't identify

I've tried searching info on what this noise could be ,but couldn't draw any conclusions.

My FC has been sitting awhile and I had some of the electrics on for a bit here and there when I was resoldering and checking the operation of the horn and clock. I doesn't hold an idle when I cold-start it so it usually takes a couple of cranks and some ever so slight throttle input to keep it idling without revving it high to keep it idling while cold. Now I know that the cold starting problem is caused by the BACV not being hooked up.

This time while cranking though my battery got drained a lot quicker and on the 4th try (yes it takes that many tries) my battery didn't have enough voltage left to crank and it was just clicking. So I jumped it in order to start the car.

After the engine was idling for about a minute. a High pitched whine/squeal that sounded like a bomb falling( like high pitch to lower pitch then it dissapeared) came from the passenger side of the engine bay. It was loud enough to be heard inside the car. It sounded like something pressurized leaking.

It's occurred again around every other time or so when starting the car since then. and it occurs usually around a minute or so after the car has started.

Any Idea on what could be causing this noise. I have no emissions equipment or a/c or power steering if that helps. I'm trying to catch the noise on video as well. The car is Turbo'd also.

Have you checked your alternator belt? Perhaps it is slipping or isn't tensioned properly.

I would guess that you have a glazed alt belt and it just can't get enough traction after start up.. After turning the engine over that much the battery would have at least partial drain and the alt would be trying to put full charge into the battery right away causing a large draw on the belt .. Just because the belt is tight doesn't mean it is ok . It is also possible that the pulleys are wore and the hard dry belt is only touching part of the pulley surface .. That is also possible why you have hard starting problems .. It is possible that the battery is always partially discharged and the engine is not turning fast enough to kick off right away .. A low battery will die fast and give poor ignition at start up .. Just for ***** and giggles take a bar of hand soap and rub it on the inner V part of the belt .. I bet it stops squealing . Try it what have you got to loose .

Happened to me also. in my case it was an AC line over pressurized that started leaking.

Refer to the FSM on belt tensioning... It isn't rocket science, though.

If it is your alternator belt, then you should look into getting a yoohoo belt, too. You want to be sure to keep that waterpump pulley in motion. (Have you noticed any overheating problems?... This question is completely relevant.)

Once. I was blasting uphill on the mountains by Santa Cruz and I noticed temps creeping up. I didn't have anywhere to pull over too so by the time I pulled over (top of mountain where there was actually somewhere with water) it reach about halfway point on the gauge. I let it cool down and added water. ( I was low. My fault for not checking on a long trip). This was about 2 months ago when it was warmer.

I also have a dual pulley thing. Not sure what its called ,but I pretty much have two belts to the alternator instead of one. Not sure if that would affect things.

Can't be a/c as I don't have any. (At least I think it can't be anything A/C related...)

I will be checking the alternator belt tomorrow though.

Thanks for the replies btw everyone.

Top off your power steering fluid.

Assuming that you still have PS.
