weird noise from shifter

87 N/A Automatic.

Ok lately I have been noticing when putting the car in reverse, and slowly backing up, there is a noise coming from the auto shifter or possible the tranny I guess. but its a clicking noise and speeds up with the car. almost sounds like something was rubbing or clicking up against something. A few weeks back my speedo cable came out and I put it back in. Could that have something to do with?

I know get rid of the Auto and put in a manuel. Well if there was some one in the erea to help me out doing the swap I would. It a daily driven car so I cant just have it sitting around in the garadge. If any one would like to help out doing the swap let me know.

Does anyone have a clue on what the noice could be? When you put it in drive the sound goes away. seem to only be doing this in reverse.

my car was clicking when first started it and began driving in the morning. The sounds would go faster and faster as i accelerated and then eventually quit after 30 mph and the car was warm. Turned out to be the driveshaft.
