I have a 88 n/a. When Im coming off the on ramp in third gear right around 5500rpm a noise that sounds like something vibrating very fast almost like a buzzing. I dont like holding it at this point but the car feels like it bucks alittle. Or im getting scared so i just jump of the gas. Cant tell and dont want to try holding it when it makes this noise {really dont have money for a new engine}. Yet first gear i can max out with no prob.

 

If it only happens in fast turns I would think it is related to the tires or suspension rather than the engine. Check the lug nuts and check for play in the suspension components. Also check the tires for cupping or uneven wear, particulatly on the outer edges of the tires.

 

When I said coming off the ramp I ment going on to the highway. so its a stright line. I dont think its my tires. If it happens in top of second gear too, but when i shift or let go the noise stops.

Sounds like bad rear u-joints to me, what do you guys think?

 

noises are very difficult to decipher without a sound clip...especially something FAIRLY uncommon like this...

Tell me...
-will it ONLY make the noise in 2nd and 3rd gear?
-will the noise remain constant if you are curising in 3rd @ 5500rpm...or does it only make the noise under accel/decel?
-does the noise stay parallell with the speed of the car? (meaning will its pitch increase respectively with the speed of the car)
