WEIRD beeping...

When my car is OFF, w/ the key OUT of the ignition... AND, the door is open... as soon as you close the door or futz w/ the door open sensing switch, the beeping stops.

I'm getting a 2 beep signal... beep beep pause, etc... kind of like I left the lights on or something.

Now, I just checked the FAQ & Interpreted that if it was a system malfunction, that the car would have to be running for this particular series of beeps.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Faulty ign switch perhaps? The body CPU may think the key is still in the ignition. you may be able to just clean and lube the switch to fix it.

unplug the Battery for 5 seconds (as NZ recommmends based on the FSM) or longer to see if you re-set your ECU. If it doesn't work then I would start diagnostic procedures for the electrical system.

The ECU controls the engine, and has no warning alarms. You're thinking of the CPU, which controls most of the car's audible warnings and has nothing resettable anyway, so that'd be a waste of time.

My guess would be it's the key-in alarm that's going off because of a faulty ignition switch. There's a little switch inside it that's closed by inserting the key, so the CPU knows when you've left it in. Not sure on a fix though. It might be stuck closed, in which case some spray lube shot into the barrel might free it up.
