weighted my S5 TurboII - 2880 lbs (sigh)

I thought it'd be a lot lighter than that, I've pulled a lot of stuff out of the car. I weighed it at a dumping yard, I'm not sure how exactly accurate it is, I'd imagine to within ten or twenty pounds at LEAST.

It weighed 3080 with me and my big heavy bag in it, and 2880 by itself with some stuff in it.

I've removed:
- stock exhaust changed to custom turbo-back single exhaust
- Sound carpeting in rear of vehicle
- A/C and all associated stuff
- ABS wheel sensors (never worked anyhow)
- Rear washer fluid reservoir (wiper doesn't work, going to get rid of it I think)
- Stock airbox
- Stock foglights
- Some other miscellaneous stuff here and there

It had in it:
- A (nearly) full (minus mabye a gallon or two) tank of gas
- A bunch of tapes and books (maybe 40 lbs worth)
- A big whiteboard (maybe 5 lbs)
- Still has airpump and all that jazz

I really thought it'd be lighter than 2800 lbs, I was hoping for like 2650 or something with all the crap I've yanked out. Oh well..

I was also thinking of seeing how well Fog-X worked (I only use the car in the spring/summer/fall) and removing the HVAC (about 50+ lbs I'd imagine).

how much did the weighing cost? you should weigh the civic and see how much it is

I wonder how much 240sx's and 2nd gen DSM's (non awd) weigh stock...they around the same size car...

so whatever happened to the whole 'I have a "lightweight rotary?"' argument

muahahha 0wnage

rotary engine with accessories isnt light...just compact for better weight distro.

There are many super heavy parts on the FC--

thick rear glass
super heavy hood
ultra mega heavy doors

Apart from maybe the AC compressor, the stuff you've removed doesn't weigh as much as you think. Things like carpet (cheap and thin), wheel sensors and plastic washer reserviors and airboxes won't make a huge difference.
That tank of gas will weight ~100lb (manufacturers kerb weights are with an empty tank), and I think you may have over estimated those books and CDs. 40lbs is a lot of books and CD's...
The figure I have for Australian-delivered S5 Turbos is 1324 kg (2913lb), so take out the gas and it doesn't look so bad.
I was also thinking of seeing how well Fog-X worked (I only use the car in the spring/summer/fall) and removing the HVAC (about 50+ lbs I'd imagine).
Oh man, don't do that. Why turn your car into an uncomfortable beater just for a few pounds? Fog-X and similar products don't work that well, and they certainly won't make the car any warmer on winter nights. And who'd want to buy a car with all the HVAC ripped out? You can kiss your resale value goodbye...

The rotary engine is much lighter than a piston engine of similar output, but that makes more of a difference to weight distribution than overall weight. No-one ever claimed the car was a lightweight, only the engine.

I don't drive it in the winter, but it would probably be a good idea to keep the HVAC (even though it's heavy as crap on the FB and probably heavier on the FC).

I'm considering a lexan rear hatch.. and I'd LOVE to get an electric power steering pump that only operates when necessary (and doesn't have all those messy lines and heavy **** bracket).

I've removed a bunch of stuff from my vert, I haven't weighed it yet , but it feels heavy in the boxes. I'll be lucky if my car tips the scales at 2,800 lbs. though.

A 2001 2 dr. Civic EX weighs 2,553 lbs. stock. My other car

Dont feel bad, little mac!

Weighed at cat scales at local gas station:

(my land whale)
91 Supra Turbo 3780 lbs full interior full (18 gal) tank minus driver

(my friend)
95 Civic hatch 2100 lbs minus driver (not sure about fuel level)

I havent weighed the stripped out RX-7 yet.

Use of the cat scale was free - you just have to catch the person at the right time of if you feel ballsy enough, go to one of those semi weigh stations on the highway when they are closed.

If all you guys are complaining about weight get a first gen. My first gen 85 gsl NA smoked a few TII, M3s (not the newest one), plenty of V8s; I would not waist my time with any Honda emblems of course to easy

6 port bridged in secondaries
RB Holley 550cfm carb / polished intake runners
RB road race exhaust to borla 3 in 2 / 2.25 out muffler strait thru
Dual pulleys
Crain ignition / coils
RB ultra wires
17lbs steel flywheel
Lieght weight Pana sport Rims 15x7 in front 15x8 in rear
Dual electric fan
Completely reworked fuel system 3/8 delivery and return
Completely reworked suspention springs shocks bushings sways new front end componets

Best of all the car had working a/c, radio, p/m, p/w every day driver
Fighting weight of about 2300lbs with me in it

Original stock weight on 85 is 2380 gsl with all the crap

**** man if you took out your ABS sensors get the ABS box taken out too! That thing is a heavy POS and it will start leaking eventually and then you will have to repaint your frame. ask me how I know Your brake pedal will feel better once it's gone too.

The air pump weighs almost as much as the A/C! Take off the the Condensor thing too, and all the lines with it. Then go manual steering rack! In the interior, the thing that weighs the most is the stock seats. Get a nice lightweight bucket seat!

I actually had a 2000lb (even) 87 NA without me and empty of gas/gadgets.

Removed:

All sound deadening material (kept all karpeting surfaces, only removed the padding)
storage bins and then glued carpet down over the bare metal
No spare/jack while racing
sunroof replaced with lexan sheet (tinted almost black)
padding scrapped off back of headliner
top portions of rear strut towers
I made new windows out of 3/16 lexan
several pieces of steel bracketing were cut out of hatch area
tar scraped out of floor boards and such
major portion of metal within door cut out
bumper reinforcements removed from both ends
AC/Air pump and related equipment removed (neither worked anyway)
All emmisions equipment removed
Most of the steel brackets up front were removed
Spoiler removed
all plastic barriers in wheel wells
a lot of reinforcement from the hood was cut
all heat shields

...hard to remember what all I removed...lol...I went at it with an "if four nuts hold it down, but three will work, then two prolly will too" kinna attitude...

I also had light 14" wheels and with stock diamter...slightly wider...tires. Not much exhaust as well...went to a straight pipe that dumped just behind the front pass. wheel.

the way I did things the interior looked almost stock...I was proud of myself.
