my car is a lil bit less than 2300.
i removed the frame that supports the rear storage bins. i removed my sunroof. i replaced my spare with the lightweight one. i got convertible rims. i got an aluminum hood. efan. str8 pipe. i still got A/C n powersteering. no emissions pump. i also replaced the old 80s sound deadening crap with new 21st century one. (it weights a lot less). oh and no overflow tank lol.
i have all of my comfort. brand new interior n reupholstered seats. the only thing not comfortable in my car is the fact that my suspension is superstiff for drifting.
before i redid my interior. i had my interior gutted n i used to chirp on 3rd gear no lie. n this was before all the performance upgrades.

He who smokes bitches
redone as in taken off? you can either melt it, or put some dry ice on it and chizel it off. both work well, though the dry ice route may be a bit safer

Sound material is taken off with a wide scraper and a heat gun, or a light hit with the torch.
When I was into bmw's people could remove over 900 lbs from their e36 M3's before the cage, and that was with power steering.
but they have 3lb composite doors vs the 100+lb 3 series doors

I've removed alot from my vert. ALOT. I have Sparco 14 lb seats, 17 lb rims, No AC PS Spare tire STereo, Manual top, wiring harness gone through. I could go on and on. I've even chopped metal out of the chassis. But I do have carpet and in general it doesn't looked stripped. It looks a little bit different from factory though.
2690 lbs with a full tank, me NOT in it. As far as I can guess there probably isn't another 20 lbs I could remove without really seeing it.

Okay, here's the new no-compromise list, based on comments, in no particular order:
Aluminum hood
Lightweight rims
Spare tire + jack removed, fix-a-flat in its place
Stainless exhaust
Flywheel
Replace sound deadening with more modern materials (remove w/ dry scraper and/or heat gun)
Lighter seats (Sparco 14lb.)
Maybe:
cut out storage bins & support frame
lighter/smaller battery
Other weight reduction, based on comments (compromises something):
emissions equipment
power steering, A/C
washer fluid reservoir & pump
carpet, upholstery, door panels, head liner, dash, plastic & storage bins, sound deadening
hatch shocks & straps
radio, speakers, speaker housing, antenna
sunroof motor & harness
cut off tire sump, door support bars
lexan windows & hatch
cold start assist
composites
Anyone sell aluminum doors? Other components? Lighter mechanical components?? (I'd like to see an alternator with aluminum wire, hehe)

there's a guy in Japan who sells fiber glass doors, not skins but whole doors for like 125 each plus shipping. he also sells FB fenders, hoods, and rear hatch main frame I believe. I'll have to look around for his site.

Hmmm........With the minimal ammount of weight that it actually takes from the car and the added noise, I dont think im going to be taking the sound deadening material off of my GTUs like I planned.

Sound deadening weighs a good amount ive removed alittle under 30lbs from my car and ive weighed it. Thats not including the carpet which weighed about 15 lbs.
So far ive removed the following
all carpet and sound deadening
powersteering
ac compressor
ac condesor
all ac lines
storage bins and rear carpet
spare tire and jack
single exshuast<<<<much lighter
removed rear exshuast heat shields
one seat
acv
smog pump
ps and ac bracket
cruise control
Id say gut it...Ill never look back the steering response and braking have improved alot not too mention the ecceleration.

They are 7lbs as full doors and if you gut them they get down to 3
There ought to be a resonably priced fiberglass parts rx7 company. widebody fenders, sunroof replacement panels, hoods, doors, etc

Once you get the weight down enough, removing P/S won't be sacrificing much at all. My '87 MR2 weighs about 2300lbs and feels great with manual steering. What's the lightest S5 TII we've got on here? And does anyone make carbon driveshafts? That would shed some killer weight as well as cutting down on parasitic drag.
So far I've removed:
carpet
spare tire and jacking equipment
A/C
emissions equipment except for cat
replaced power mirrors with fiberglass RE Amemiya mirrors
power seatbelt motors and tracks
rear washer bottle
stereo and speakers
lighter headlight units (diamond crystal or whatever)
lighter aftermarket fogs
3" stainless single outlet exhaust
a bunch of little fiddlybits like unused bolts and clips
I gotta get mine on a scale to see what it weighs... I've still got to get rid of the rest of the deadening, get FG fenders, sunroof, hood, and rear hatch, rear glass from a non rear-wiper model, (to remove rear wiper), remove the strut tops, jack clip, antenna mast, power steering, install lighter seats and steering wheel, switch to manual windows, and get lighter wheels, tires, and suspension pieces. I'd also like to get a custom crank pulley made because it will only need to power the alternator (because I plan to install an electric water pump to reduce parasitic drag even further). If I make it a dedicated track car I'll go for the FG doors and remove the heater core and HVAC unit. Oh, and does the fan shroud serve any purpose other than preventing you from cutting your hand off? Cuz I'd like to remove that, too, as well as possibly installing a SPAL electric fan in place of the big stock clunker.

Oh, and everyone should pick up the August issue of Sport Compact car and read the article on the Opera S2000 buildup. They got an S2000 down from 2976lbs to 2167lbs caged with a full interior and all amenities by using carbon body panels, drilling/chamfering all nonessential chassis pieces, stitch-welding, lightweight wheels/suspension, racing buckets, etc. . Absolutely incredible.
