Wearing out Wheel bearings 3 sets in one summer.

I have a strange problem.
I am wearing out wheel front wheel bearings way to fast. I have gone through 3 sets. I am not over tightening them, I had two sets done at the dealer and did the last my self and they have all failed.

The seem like they all get warped races. I only get excess play in specific wheel positions. but it's so bad my rotors are touching my callipers, in some positions.

The car dose not shake or have any problems at all except that I can shake the wheels and I can hear the rotors scraping the callipers when I apply the brakes at low speed.

I have searched and nobody else seems to have this problem. I would like to know if anybody knows what could be causing this problem. I don't want to rune another set, there must be an underling problem.

Thanks for any help.

huge heavy rims will put more stress on your bearings

what type of grease are you packing it with? And how are you packing it?
How are the bearing runners? Are they chipped or broken?

I have never had a problem with the fronts. they should run forever.. Something is up.... They dont need to be torqed down hard.. The wheel should spin freely. But at the same time there should be no wheel slop if you move the wheel up and down.

Also are you sure they gave you the right bearings? Make sure its the correct ones. just because they fit does not mean they are the correct bearings..

Are you running deep dish rims? or offset?

maybe the spindle is bent and wearing out the bearings. I was having the same issue with my FB.....the races were getting chewed up........they would start making noises within a few weeks after installing a new set.....

got some used strut housings from a member here and so far so good.....

Thanks for the replies

All torques are set according to the FSM

The rims are 17"x7.5 20Lbs with a 42 mm offset, and I have proper centering rings.

I am not a drifter and I rarely light up my tires.

I believe I am using standard bearing grease.

If i do have a bent spindle how would I tell, or do i just need to change it and hope for the best.

The strange thing is the car dose not shake on the high way. The bearings work fine over 20Km/H (12Mph)

More so incorrect offsets. Which doesn't really sound like the issue here. I've autocrossed regularly for ten years, with sticky streets or r-compounds all that time, and I've never worn out bearings, and only repacked them twice (mostly because I already had them out to check them). So even hard use should not cause this. Given that 2 sets were done at a dealer, one himself, it should not be an issue with packing them correctly. Along with the bent or damaged spindle idea - have you been replacing the races in the hub each time? Maybe it's actually the hub that's warped?

The original hubs had new races put in twice and the last time I fixed it I got the entire hub/races assembly from a 10AE and used new bearings.

looks like the spindles might be next for you......Just wondering; are you using a bearing packer tool?
