I would think that the return on investment from making a Rtek chip would be worth the cost of the car alone. I mean you can get a descent S5 turboII for $3500.00. To break even on the cost of the car alone they would only need to sell 35 chips at $100.00 each. Anything after that is gravy!

With the S5 most would be happy if they just removed the MOP CEL! Then they could sell to N/A and Turbo II.

I couldn't see even making it for how few S5 Turbos are still on the road, and how few people would buy the chip.

It would be nice. The S5 TIIs are notorious for pinging on a cool humid night with just exhaust upgrades.

An S5 Rtek chip would help solve that and keep the a/f correct and allow running slightly larger injectors with 8-10 PSI of boost on the stock setup.

I think the chips are the same, but the actual PROM (code) is probably different. They would have to re-code the chips and probably do a few dyno runs to determine the best timing, a/f, and boost levels to run first.

I think the S5 do not have a removable PROM, which could be a problem.

Neither do the S4 models, you just unsolder the old chip, solder a socket in, and plug the new (or old) chip into the new socket.

On the website it looked like they were going to make chips for all FC models.

Ummm...not really. You have to remember that the chips cost money, as does the burner. And the programming takes time. I don't know his exact costs, but I would say he would have to probably sell closer to 70 at $100 each (probably around $3500 profit there) to pay for test car. 70 units is alot for the cheapo FC owners to buy. Alot of people say they will buy them now...I bet 75% of them never buy one once its available. So you can see its not really that easy for him to just grab an S5 and start hacking away at the ECU.

they need to be paid for R&D as well. Not just labor and parts cost. It would be nice though to have one for s5 t2s. I agree on getting rid of the CEL for the electric OMP.

Those are relatively expensive and more difficult to find EMS's. There are only a few Power FCs in the US I believe and I dont know one person with an hks vpc.

No chips for S5s? More reason to quit trying to band-aid mazdas shitty EFI system and go with a standalone.

No kidding. I've been holding my breath for that chip. And I really want one. It would be nice if they could go as far as they did with the 1g DSM and have the datalogger. But one step at a time. I WANT A CHIP FOR MY S5!!

I bought an ecu from japan that let me run 15psi with a front mount IC. I turned the boost up to 18psi after i bought a fuel pump and pressure regulator.

I ran like that since last September. My motor went down last week because I turned down the pressure regulator to save gas and forgot to turn it back up before a race. What a stupid mistake.

I think I've got a sh$#@ty video of my dynoing at 20psi with the modded ecu and pressure regulator turned up. My boost controller failed halfway through the run so I only made 200hp but 270lb-ft of torque by 4500rpm. I'll try to post it (video and dyno).

i want to get EMS, but not at this particular time.
i would rather biuld up a fresh engine large turbo etc. when going with the EMS.

but for now all i want is alittle safety with my near stock set-up which i will be keeping until i have the $$ to go with all the big stuff.

na mean.........

i want s5 chip

i have that j-spec ecu in my s5.

and your boost isnt failing............once the boost creep has died off it shows its running at 7 psi (i think cause the camera started to move around alot at the end)

can anybody back me up on this or give a better explanation......cause im no expert

I wasn't running a stock turbo or the stock boost control solenoid. It's a t3/t4 with a hks external wastegate on the hks manifold. The controller was an HKS EVC I.

I've never even seen a vpc for a s5 until one popped up on ebay a few days ago

The guys at R-Tek have a burner and chips. They also don't sell them for $100.00 its more like 175.00. Either way it wouldn't take many chips for them to hit break even. Also if they figure out a turbo ECU program an N/A MOP shut off would be easy.
