Last year, there were only a handful. I think myself and maybe 4 other FCs actually hit the drag strip. Not only that, I was the fastest TII at 13.8, and that was on snow tires and with a bad LSD! Sad!

There were a TON of FDs, but no one raced. We need more people to show up!

BTW, I had a lot of fun, despite me melting my wiring harness. I ended up doing a trackside Microtech installation that took about 2 hours total and drove the car limping home. I still had a lot of fun though!

i would be there but anytime any kind of meet or rotary get together happens, something always wrong or not finished on the FC, sorry, hopefully, now its just a ECU problem, and will be back on the road soon, hope more FC's show up though, and i know there are tons of FC's on here running 11-12sec. even faster, they need to show up and show em what a 2d gen can do

I bet alot of people running 10-11 sec 1/4 miles arent going to be drag racing their cars hundreds of miles from home, dont want to break anything.

Its kind of a long drive from KC, but I might go depending on my availabilty. I'd be more anxious to tear up the road course though.

thats true, but there should still be a few running anyway, and i know alot of people that come far tow there cars and just drive from there hotel, there the ones that can race...lol

I'd love to bring my 2nd gen, but it still looks like the car won't be ready. Or rather, if it is, it will just barely be running and I don't want to make the drive to Indianapolis my break in. Besides, I don't want to bring my car and have something break at the track since I need to keep my time free to install Microtechs after people burn their wiring harnesses....

i would like to make it, but i think ill be in the same shape, breaking in new motor hopefully, and paying for parts Probably. but if luck will have it, ill be there and if i do make it, ill take a run down the strip for ya.

WOW! it costs $200 for the road course? and the dyno runs arnt cheap either. I do a lot of open track stuff and it usually runs me about $100 for the day, and we have group dyno gatherings at the local dyno for pretty cheap. What the heck is going on with the prices? How do they lay out the road course?

The dyno is a mobile dyno which means it is built onto a trailer and hauled in from Columbus, OH. We actually get a cost break since they've been to the event before.

At Indy Raceway Park, this is an official road course. And you are going to get double the amount of runs you would normally get at an open lapping event including in-car instruction on how to drive and run the track.

The IRP road course is a high-speed 2.5-mile 15-turn course, wide and with little elevation change, using parts of the drag strip, shutdown area, and staging area. CSR cars using four gears in a five-speed gearbox reach speeds around 140 MPH going into Turn 1, and take the slowest corner at around 70 MPH. The track surface is quite rough in several areas from Turn 5 through Turn 11, and runoff areas are sharply limited around Turns 5, 12, and 15. Apexes and exits of most turns have ruts just off the track surface, but it is generally safe to pull a low ground-clearance car off the track elsewhere.
What follows is a generic description of the track, describing its features without defining speeds, gears, or shift points -- all of which will vary widely from car type to car type.

Few of the turns at this track are sufficiently separated by straight segments to be treated as isolated turns; IRP contains more sets of clustered turns (where your line through or out of a turn must be modified to accomodate the requirements of the next turn or the one after it) than any other track I can recall running -- there are only five corners that can successfully be treated in isolation. Because of the number of clustered turns, and because some of the isolated turns are themselves very close together, you have to work hard at IRP; there are only two or three places on the track where you can relax a little and check your instruments.

The false grid for all sessions is along the pit access road between the pits and the grandstand. You must be able to back into the proper slot in the false grid; if you do not have a working reverse gear you will need someone along to push the car. You will proceed south along the pit lane and make a tight U-turn onto the pit lane for practice and qualifying, a less tight U-turn onto the track for the race.

The starter's stand is often not visible to the end of the pack at starts, but the front straight is wide enough that there is seldom a problem from unexpected wave-offs. Get over to the left edge of the track when it is convenient to do so. Turn 1 is a very high-speed flat 90-degree sweeping right-hand turn, followed by a short straight and another right-hand turn. There's a lot of passing from sheer speed differential at the end of the front straight, but entering Turn 1 side-by-side at speed is a dangerous manouver, especiially so if you're on the outside. When everything is working right, you should aspire to enter Turn 1 at full speed and without lifting, letting the friction of the turn slow you enough that you can enter Turn 2 also without lifting -- but not all cars can do this and you should work up to it. There is a lot of runoff area outside Turn 1; it's reasonably flat but there's a noticeable dropoff just at the track edge.

Dude, this thing isn't set up so money is flowing into coffers like Scrooge McDuck. I know MichRX7 personally and he isn't anywhere near lining his pockets on this thing.

A lot of work goes into organizing this, renting the track, etc. Don't you think, since we want as many people to come as possible, it is as cheap as possible? Hell, the hotel is 33 bucks a night for 1 room!

I spent more in Canada on a few pitchers of beer last night than I will going to this thing.

It's 45 bucks to go, if you don't have the cash to go on the road course, then don't do it!


I'm a TII owner in college; I know how hard it is to come up with money. I think this is a lot more fun than street racing/highway racing, and it takes a lot more guts than both of those.

Sorry what I ment is that a lot of RXs( RX-2,RX-3, RX-7, RX-8) will be showing up, and a discount would be nice. I can get $200 road course pretty easily at a local event. But mostly moneys tight, and since I will have to take off work, drive up to Indy from Kansas City, and then pay a few hundred dollars, the less $$ the better.

Don't worry about not having a turbo on that car, there were many non-turbo cars on both the drag strip and autocross last year having a blast. Everything from 12a's to non-turbo vert's were racing. Check out the video on the website (it might not work if you have a popup blocker).

I dont think I could go to this, but I might wrangle something. Its a long drive from Texas to Indy, plus I think thats gonna be close to finals time. If I can figure out a way, I'd do it, though. Ive been wanting to go to something like this for a while.
BTW, is there anyone else from Texas thinking about going?

I'd love to discount it more for the road course. For this size and type of track we are actually pretty cheap. There are only 45 slots available for the road course on Sunday so that people paying get the most for their $200.

We will also be running question/answer seminars during that time on Sunday along with other goodies I'm just not allowed to talk about yet (and trust me, it's hard to keep it to myself!)

Steve Kan and two other cars from Gotham Racing will be heading up from Texas. We are working on a good meeting point and time for anyone who wants to caravan up there with them.

Also, I am working on getting Chris from RP to bring up their car(s) from Texas as well.

We've got an interesting proposal out to the sponsors to bring their race cars and to have them drag against each other to win part (or all) of their sponsorship back so the competition should be fierce.
