which way to turn cas to advance timing?

Hello,
I'm trying to start an 88 S4 NA motor and need to advance the timing a bit by the sound of the motor, I dont want to flood AGAIN and have to do unflooding procedure.

Is it clock wise or counter clockwise when looking from the drivers side fender?

+1, adjusting the ignition timeing without a riming light is a bad idea.

Take the flat black cover off the top of the CAS. Then spin the engine over. See if the rotor in the CAS moves clockwise or anti clockwise. Say it moves anti clockwise. Then you'd rotate the CAS body clockwise to advance the timing. Right? Yup. Called a indirect answer or the like.

thanks hailers, you are by far one of the most useful members on here. VERY knowledgeable!

I just used an old post of yours to set the timing and its close enough to start and run, just wont idle....that's why I cant use the timing light yet to set it correct. I hate working by myself on this kind of stuff.
