It doesn't matter. With the advances in speaker technology in the 10+ years since those were made, anything from a reputable brand is going to be a vast improvement in power handling and sound quality. Just chuck 'em!

The stock speakers are rated at 25 watts.

The speakers were cheap and poor back when the car was built comparied to the aftermarket speakers available at the time, and as NZConvertible says; well alone comparied how much better speakers are today.

Further more you should not be buying speakers based on power rating. Unless you understand the how the speaker is rated.

For example: speakers often have ratings like 120 watts that are for peak power, but RMS power only 35 watts, or nominal power at 20 watts. Would that work for your car? Nope, not with the stock system. Your stock system doesn't have enough power to drive the speaker correctly.

Now lets toss in a passive crossover, whoah... suddenly now the speaker can handle 100 watts RMS. But all the other figures stay the same. still needs at least 20 watts RMS to drive it and still peaks out at 120 watts.

So pick a speaker on how it sounds, or what its frequency response is rather than its power ratings.

Thanks, I know less than nothing about sound, I am all about what is under the hood. I picked a couple 60 watt Jensen speakers, they are only four inch, for real cheap so I was just wondering if there was any point in replacing the stock ones with them.

I have my stock clarion speakers in my car and they sound pretty good. I have 0 bass going to them though and all treble. They get around 30 to 35 watts from the deck because i don dial it up all the way. I have 2 10' subs in a ported box and it sounds really good.

ps i rarely get distortion.

Assuming your deck is rated at about 40W/ch (which actually means about 10-15Wrms/ch) your speakers are probably getting less than 10Wrms each. That’s lucky because that’s probably about all those 10yo speakers can handle.

deck is 45x4 watts
i was just surprised how clear and how much watts they could handle for stock speakers. Some of my friends have liek amps running all their speakers and it doesnt sound much better then mine and for $500 bucks more then mine, its not worth buying new speakers.

I also have sub control on my deck so that makes a big difference.

If u dont have subs i would go for new speakers but, if u do i wouldnt be in any hurring to pick up 4 new 6 inch speakers.

Ahh, see the diffrence there is clarity. If they get a good set of speakers all around, a good amp, then it will be MUCH louder than your head-unit, and it will be able to produce the louder sound with much better quality.

Now, I have a Blaupunkt head unit right now...with stock front speakers and Infinity rears...it sounds okay...but nothing like my 1st gen did with all Infinity speakers and Alpine head-unit

For obvious marketing reasons, head units are still rated (on the box and sometimes even on the face) as PMPO (peak mean power output), which is the absolute maximum the head unit's built-in amp can produce for a split second. This is a complete sham rating and really means nothing. RMS (root mean square) is the only legitimate way to measure power output, and is usually less than half PMPO. Have a look at the specs in your head unit's instruction booklet. It'll have both PMPO and RMS power outputs listed there, and I'll bet money the RMS rating is only 15-20W RMS.
Speakers are the same. It'll say "200W" on the box (and maybe PMPO in really little letters), but if you stick more than 100W RMS into them, they will fry!
Power is everything in audio. A 100W system can be made as loud as a 150W system, but guess which one is going to sound a whole lot better than the other!

yea true but i find the treble gets too loud and it hurts my ears more the then bass does. My subs thump pretty good too.

In the rear seats its soo much louder back there that i get ppl telling me to turn it down cause i dotn notice it was much in the front.
