waterpump neck ??
ok i have a 1st gen but want to put in a aftermarket water temp. guage. it has a sencer but its diffrent that the stock treads, what i would really like to do is put in a 2nd gen upper water pump neck. The part that covers the thermostat.
now the question, does the 2nd gen neck have a spot to install a sencer? I thikn i saw 1 and it had 1 in there but not 100% and befor i go and buy a $50 part i want to make sure.
Thanks
David

Some of those necks have a threaded sensor for the fan(for the a/c). I've no idea if it has the same size threads as what you want to install. The other necks without the little fan in front of the condenser, have a *BOSS* where the fan sensor would go. I'Ve drilled and tapped in that boss, and installed a mechanical gauge on a spare neck I have. No reason you can't go to the previously owned but damaged vehicle yard and pick one up for five bucks. I've got a 82 out front but right now I'm too tired from roofing the garage to get off my duff. Wonder if that would fit. Maybe tomorrow. I question whether the studs are spaced the same. I'LL check it out and write back in a few.

Yup. The stud pattern seems the same. I noted a problem though. The 13b neck stands about six inches high. It seems that that would hit the air cleaner. Say do you have a brand new steering box that you'd like to give me for free? Hey, it never hurt to ask. That 82 has one good engine in it but the steering has no more adjust left in it and Mazdatrix wants 5-6 for new. Already swapped out with the wreck yard but its junque also. While I'm here, would you like to buy the Holley carb and intake manifold from racing beat for a mere hundred bucks. Been sitting in the storage shed for two years. That and the racing beat headers made that car.

David,
I've already went through this and found several options. A guy on the FB list put a second gen waterpump housing on his first gen, so yes that can be done. Second, you can drill and tap your housing. third, (this is the method I used) call auto meter or whoever made your guage and tell them what you are doing. they will give you the part # of the $6 reducer that you need to buy and there is a place here local that sells them. I will have to find out who they are for you if your interested.
Hailers,
If david doesn't want that holley and intake consider it sold. let me know.
Mike
