Water Temp sender vs. Oil Temp sender
Hi all,
Is the sender for an oil temp gauge and that of a water temp gauge the same...or is a different type of sender used to monitor the oil temps? Consider that both gauges are of the same model and make, and that they're also both from the same company...oh lets say autometer
The situation is that i wanna buy a full sweep water temp gauge to replace the retarded 3/4 sweep one i have now...but at the same time want an oil temp gauge..i just wanna know if i can use my current water temp gauge to monitor oil temps instead and then buy a new water temp gauge for my coolant.
Thanks!

Actually i bought that fc3s oil pedistal thing....i figure theres an extra hole in it so i might as well stick something useful there. Gauges aren't cheap...but hey...why not right?

Are these mechanical, or electrical gauges? If mechanical, I could see MAYBE the internal seals being different (one not being compatible with oil, for instance), but that's being paranoid...The capillary tubes are probably the same, though, if the scales are the same...

They're both electrical..which is why i'm willing to pull this stunt. I dont see why they would be different....but it wouldn't surprise me if they were.

I cannot comment if they work the same or not. I would just call autometer and ask.

They are the same as far as I know. I got the SPA dual water temp/oil temp sold here...

I like it much better than the analog type because you can read numbers much faster than you can read an analog, and you don't need the rate-of-change info that an analog supplies when used as a speedometer or boost gauge for example. You also save space because it's two in one. They have virtually every combo you could think of too.
