Water in storage bins?

Hey all. I got a very strange one here. I just bought a 7 and I discovered a small pool of water in one of the storage bins. The other bin was only wet a little. Also the car had water collected in the spare tire well and the jack compartment. I have only a couple of guesses of how this may happened, but, Does anyone know if this or has had this happend to them? Not that big of deal to me, but, enough to pester me. Thanks.

only way i could think of is if its been in an accident maybe and at one point had no back window or just no back window without the accident, and it rained... same thing happend to mine, after it was totaled it sat in my driveway for a while with a shattered rear hatch and the water had nowhere to go so it just collected over time.

when you open the hatch there are 2 holes for water to drain through. and if you peal back the carpet and follow those holes there are tubes that go to holes under the car for the water to drain. when i first bought my car and washed it, there was water in one of my bins and in the spare tire well because one of the tubes was draining into the car and not out the bottom. hope this helps.

arent the storage bins completely enclosed though? i dont see how water could get in there without you knowing. i agree about the 2 drain holes though. i have a pencil in my hatch to stick in there when they get clogged.

I've had water in there so yes, its possible. My drain holes in the hatch area are clogged too so I think its allowing it to flood inside some how. I'll check it out later though.

before i removed them, my bins were just carpet down there with no reinforcement. not like hard boxes or anything. more like 2 carpet sacks.

Underneathe each storage bin in the floor pan is two holes, they're supposed to have little rubber plugs in them, but mine had kind of worked loose so water was splashing up through them on rainy days, the plugs apparently worked well enough to keep the water from going back out once it was in, so it just sat there.

That's exactly how mine are. My amp sits in my driver's side, and it has already ripped 3 of the screw mounts, which were just plastic screws holding a piece of carpet to the bin.

stop using the storage bins for iceing down your beer, Coleman makes some very good coolers for this purpose! ALso, if you are a fisherman, those are not live wells.

Oh god don't let me tell you some of the fishing stories I have of how buddies have brought fish home. We pier fish at carolina beach, and bring home COOLERS full, filled every damn thing we had. Well, one of my buddies takes some and puts them in the center console of his truck!! Thank god the plastic bucket (which holds atleast a gallon full of whatever) is removable.. but man by the time we got back home, his truck was not the mose pleasant smelling vehicle.

Oh good times.. good times. My S/N says it all

this actually just happened to me and it smelled horrible until i took all the interior out and let it air out. the drain hose on the drivers trunk side had come out and all the water was going into the jack storage, spare tire, and drivers storage bin. i cleaned out the tube and place the hose back into the drain hose hole. also make sure the antenna drain hose is through the drain hole. i permanetly removed the drain plug from the jack storage area to keep any build up of water in. no water or dirt will go up throught the hole so all is good. at the same time i made some new speaker creations on the storage bin fiberglass pieces. no mounting subs on the lids thing. i just mounted some 5 1/2" and 1" tweeters on the slanted side facing the passengers powered by a small amp mounted inbetween the bins... all stealth. 4 added speakers... and more to come in the future including some 10" or 12" subs, and a custom tool box that can all easily be removed for any such "activity". well thats my input...

You can store fluid in the bins on an FD. I used them to ice my beer once at a huge outdoor party when I forgot my cooler. Fc is just carpet sacks though, so fluid in them is not cool. Your car probably smells kinda weird.

It's also possible that you have a bad hatch glass seal on the rear hatch. When it rained, water leaked in through the seal, ran down the hatch floor and collected underneath the storage bin.

The hatch will leak if the drain tubes are clogged.
