Warning Light For Brakes!??!??

my buddy has an 88 gxl n/a, very nice car... lately (it only happens every so often) when he hits his brakes, the "stop" light comes on the warning light panel. Does anyone know what the stop light on the hazard light means, it would be appreciated!?
thanks

It means one of your brake lights is out, or the signal isn't going through to the ECU.

The STOP warning light is just for a blown brake light bulb. The BRAKE warning light is for the handbrake and low brake fluid.
