warning cluster

i was just out digging my car out from the recent snow storm and i noticed when i gave it a little gas the malfunction indicator would flash on and off.

Anybody know why this would happen? The car was completely warmed up and when i gave it a strong pump of the throttle the indicator would flash on and off.

I'll be trying it again tomorrow when i head out to work.

This is my '91 N/A.

Search for a way to check engine codes. I don't know how to do it for a S5.
