Warming up/Cooling down procedure

I'm finally getting a stock TII on the 3rd. I would just like to be 100% clear on how I should be warming the car up and cooling it down.

One thing I've wondered about wouldn't driving it hard right away heat it up the fastest? Saracatic question, but if someone could explain WHY you shouldn't do it.

first drive of the day I let her warm up for 3-5 min. Then I don't boost or drive the car hard until it is at normal operating temp. Then if the car is cooled down again, I will usually let it warm up for 30 sec to a min. Some people are not as carefull as me, but it is better safe than sorry. Oh yeah remember to take it for a spirited run every once in a while to clean all of the carbon deposits out of the motor.
Hope that helps.

warming up and cooling down:
WARMING UP:
i used to let my rx7 get all the way to normal operating temp before i would drive it. I heard that all it needs is about 30 seconds of warming up because at idle there is not enough oil pressure to really be affective. So after 30 sec or so I go. But IT IS IMPORTANT to wait til it gets up to normal operating temp before you romp on it real good.

COOLING DOWN:
The mazda manual says let it sit 30 seconds after a hard run..such as going uphill and getting on the boost or racing. But the turbo timers have settings from 2 minutes to 10 minutes..and i think 5 minutes is in the middle. Why mazda says just 30 sec and only after a hard run I'll never know for sure..i'll guess they figured no one would sit in there car for 2 +minutes. I have also heard that if you drive from point A to point B and really dont use the boost then you dont have to let it cool down. But I would always let mine cool down just to be sure.

The reason you arent supposed to drive hard when the motor is cold is because it isnt good for the components in the engine to be dry(no oil on startup) and you just run it hard. It would be a rapid temp change making everything get hot with no lubrication thus causing heat stress on the internal components.

Plus I know this for a fact, the oem(mazda) oil filter has a bypass in it in case it gets clogged up it will let the oil get by and the engine will get oil..slightly dirty oil is better than no oil. So if the motor is cold then it makes a pressure differential and creates a stopped up affect bypassing the oil..which is fine if the filter is really stopped up but you dont want unfiltered oil getting to your engine if you can prevent it..of course that is obvious. I know that last part for a fact becasue it is in the racing beat catalog.
well hope that helps
