Want: Remove cats Dont: Lose 6ports

I tried to summarize in the subject line but here goes...

I have an 88 NA, and I want to shave some restriction from my exhaust, and get a better tone. So I want to gut the cats. Now I know it has 3, so what I wanna know is... can I gut them all without losing my 6 ports? I plan to keep the rest of my exhaust the way it is, not stock but not exactly the best setup. If I can only get away with gutting the precats, thats fine, or if I can get away with just the main cat, thats fine too. I want to get rid of as much as possible without losing 6ports.

you can get the Racing Beat presilencer cat replacement and race pipe (is that what you call it?) from header to presilencer which will eliminate all the cats and keep your 5th and 6th ports. Another alternative is to work some kind of system with the air pump to open the 5th and 6th ports, I read info on that on forum a while ago.

u should just force your 5th and 6th ports to stay open all the time. the low end power loss is not that noticeable, pluss it wont matter at all at high rpm. If you REALLY wanna keep them closed at low rpms, u could devise an electrical servo mechanism connected to a switch in the car. that might be the easiest solution. OFF for the street, On for racing.

If you're running the stock (or similar) mufflers and have no leaks, it'll work just fine. Otherwise, get a presilencer and a header.

Huh? When my aux ports were wired open there was a massive difference. It had truly aweful low end power. The motor had 215k on it, but it still had good power at high rpms. There was huge, monumental difference in power. I would just do it right and get the RB presilencer/downpipe. Its $300 and the aux ports work perfectly. Plus, you should get more power that way.

Or you could buy a Euro.spec. LIM
We have butterflies overhere which is vaccum activated using a solenoid valve

Here is mine that I fixed up yesterday. I have zero emissions what so ever and still functional ports

hey oregano, if there wasn't much difference when you wired them open, maybe they weren't working right to begin with. If that is why you say that. Just a thought.

So I guess I'll gut them one at a time. First precat, then the second. and we'll see if I lose 'em.
I don't want to jury-rig something up to actuate them.
