Want an RB Turbo back, but dont want problems...need help

First off I know Im a newbie and sometimes we ask dumb questions so bear with me. Ive spent the last 2 days looking over as many searches as I could and could find bits and pieces of this info but need to see if this is correct before I blow something. I just became the extremely proud owner of an 87 T2 w 80k miles. Most everything that didnt get replaced during routine maintenance is still original such as the first thing that needs replacing ... the exhaust system. The car is stock as I stated so I was hoping to make my first repair to it something more of a MOD and I have read about the associated issues with the RB but I need to get this straight. I know I will run into boost creep and to help with this I need to port the wastegate. I also know I need that fuel cutoff eliminator. I also know that I will run into fuel issues if I go this route and thats where im sketchy. Do I need upgraded injectors or would something like the walbro suffice.. or do I need the pump and something like the safc ? I may have missed stuff because im a newbie like I said and if I did please let me know but bear with me and throw me some suggestions. Thanks in advance

As long as you have a FCD and walboro 255lph fuel pump you will be safe to run a full open exhaust and an intake. Porting the WG is also recommended and a aftermarket boost gauge (as the FCD tricks the stock boost gauge, thus it does not work). s-afc is not needed but you will probably want one down the road.

er no. he has an S4...which are more prone to creep and spiking. Keep the stock airbox in. Are you running cats? I'd hope so. Get an FCD and a Walbro just to be safe, but the airbox and cats should keep the boost safe. Don't run an open exhaust or an intake.

What would you recommend then, before running a 3in exhaust and intake?

walbro, 2x720cc injectors (min...recommended 4x720cc), and either an S-AFC or standalone to control them.

i mean, exhaust and intake have been done on stock ecu and fuel before...but its pushing it. and injectors+safc cost less than a new motor.

with a 3 inch turbo back exhaust and intake, along with TID mod, you should be safe with just a walbro 255lph.

get a boost gauge first. then get the walbro. then get the exuast and FCD. don't go over 10-11psi. if it does. let off. if it does it now means you can't floor the car. and you'll need to port the wastegate. adding an intake and exhuast will certaintly make it go over 10psi. exhaust alone probably will too.

Boost guage is a definite... and I already ordered the Walbro... and yea the porting of the wastegate is also a definite.. and obviously the FCD... so the general consemsus seems to be ( and i say this because I see a few who responded are running the setup ) that this should work. As far as the cat goes Im looking like i said at the RB Turbo exhaust which I believe just has a Hi-flow cat. Gotta look into that TID mod though... well it sounds like I should be good.. if the boost creep does go to 10-11 psi though what can be done later to stop it ? Then i need an aftermarket ecu or what ?

the only thing that can stop boost creep is adding more restriction to the system (putting back on stock airbox for example) or porting the wastegate more. I have a s4 turbo that is extremely ported with fullintake and exhuast and I can run as low as .5bar ifI want.

Please gimme some more info, my new engine is being put in tomorrow... I have all the mods listed below, plus I am getting a walboro, boost gauge, and WG ported. What can I do with this setup to keep the boost under 11?

I'm interested in hearing the results of this also. I have an s5 T2, and i have a racing beat downpipe/presilencer in the mail, as well as a dynomax superturbo catback. I have a mazdatrix fcd (s4, but will be modified for s5). Do i need a walbro or an fd pump? My injectors are leaking i suspect, so i want to replace those. Can i use stock primaries and 720 secondaries? Anyone know where i can buy a pair of 720's inexpensively?
Thanks guys!
-Ross

Well I think a few people are looking for this answer so im kinda bumping this one, but from what you guys are saying so far this setup should be good.

Walbro Pump
Larger Injectors (Whats a good place to get these?)
S-AFC
Ported Wastegate (or more than likely s5 turbo)
then...lastly
RB Turbo II Exhaust

It sounds like at that point ill be all set even if my boost does creep.
