Has anyone had any experience either good or bad with the Walbro 255 High Volume Fuel Pump?
What is your opinion of the Walbro Pumps in general?

Mine still working fine.

 

Well I ran a 255 Walbro Pump in my 97 T2 for awhile when I was running around 12psi of boost. It did great and never had an problems with it. Still worked great when removed to go back to a mostly stock form.

I have an 86 N/A stock can the walboro pump make it hesitate at 3800 ?

 

why would you get a walboro fuel pump on a stock n/a?

I have a Walbro. Mine does whine. I can only hear it when I am idling though, but once I get on the gas, the exhaust drowns out the whine.

 

mine whines pretty loud ,but i got used to it.. at first i thought it was noise in my stereo wiring

 

Check your grounds

 

It's a wonder your car runs. You don't need more fuel in a stock n/a. Seriously...get the correct pump for your car. Upgrades on an N/A don't start with fuel...but with airflow.

 

I have done everything else you could name possible so I am looking for alternatives . I have put the stock pump back in it

 

Search "3800 hesitation" or variations. Its been covered to death. Firstly start by re-doing your factory grounds starting with the main ECU grond (firewall to bellhousing) then move onto re-grounding the pressure sensor (after checking it for a clean sweep) then the TPS for a clean sweep also.

I ran a Walbro, hated it. Went lean above 5500 rpm every time, before and after rewire. This resulted in a rebuild. Went back to the stock pump with no problems. All on 7psi.

^^ Hmmm, I don't go lean at all. Maybe you had a cheap one? Not real? Or maybe you had a problem with your injectors.

Who knows. I haven't had any problems. I have had the pump for about 6 years.

 

Certainly not a normal experience. I find it hard to believe that a pump with over twice the flow rate of the stock pump leaned out your vehicle at stock boost levels. Something else must have been a miss, or the pump was a dud or not an actual Walbro.

Grounded the brown/black wire on the pressure sensor?
Cleaned/flowed injectors?
Check fuel pressure?
Any recent exhaust work?

Trust me I've fixed numerous hesitations, you haven't done it all. Keep searching.

I see this all the time, and I ******* swear, this pump is a mouse. Post video's of the "astonishingly loud" Walbro pump please. You people need to hear a real fuel pump running, then you'd realize how quiet these are.

 

It was a real Walbro, probably a dud.

I have since taken a different stance on fuel pumps. I no longer trust a cheap pump (price wise) on an expensive motor. Now I have a Bosch 044 that I will be installing to feed the upcoming HKS TO4S setup.
