w00t!!! look what FINALLY came in... pics & questions.

WOOT!

Looky what I got. yeah, nothing special.. but this is some of the final **** I need to get my car started again! Genuine mazda OEM gaskets. Got them for a "steal" on ebay for 60 bucks shipped. Whether or not thats a good price I don't know, but its worth it either way.

Got a few questions:

#1: Should I grease the metal LIM gasket? I asked if i should silicone it, and somebody suggested vaseline instead, as the metal is fine for sealing.. but just thought grease should be better. Not really a question, just need "reassurance".

#2: Inside the oil pan gasket (in the pic) above the circle metal gasket... what are those two for?

#3: The orange gasket is for the front cover? Or the waterpump -> front cover? Don't have the FC at home, and honestly can't remember...

#4: Is there a write up for the proper way to get the engine mount off to change the pan gasket. I have access to a 4 point outside lift (2 post, not the large cylinder in the middle) and various transmission jacks/stands.. so the equipment is covered, just don't know exactly what to do.

SO HAPPY TO GET MY SHIZZLE RUNNING!!!!
Just need my MOP block off plate come in tomorrow, tps and split air pipe next week, and I am good to go

1- From my understanding the vaseline is put on to make removal of the manifolds easier in the future. I've only heard of it for the UIM due to it being taken off so much and being kinda flimsy.

2 - Eh

3- Eh

4 - I think you just support the engine and unbolt the engine mount in the way.

WHAT THE ****!!!

Man, got to the shop today and realised that the pic on ebay shows a gasket for the water pump to the front cover... the small one like 4" x 2" - NO GASKET! RTV will have to do.

So excited!!!

Weren't those your pics up above? Because that CLEARLY shows a water pump gasket. Not that it's important anyway, I've used RTV fine on them before..

I disagree wholeheartedly. You should definately use a gasket on water pump housing to block(made one myself from water tyoe gasket material in 1 minute)!!! Cant state this strongly enuff simply for the fact that I just had to do this gasket on my car as the idiot who owned it before just used RTV.

RTV can and will fail in this situation. Think about it, high heat, water/coolant joining surface, and the vibration on the front from the fan and water pump. As well the joining surface is odd as well as spacer gaskets on to left bolts put there just to compensate for a gasket etc. Is it really worth chancing a leak(that takes many hours of dissasembly of front of engine) just to not buy or make a gasket? There are many places on a engine that RTV will work relatively well but this is not one of them.

Sorry for the bold statement but I just got through fixing this fuckup and I am still pissed that RTV was used here.

hehehehe...
