Volvo v50 power steering pump in rx7 fc. Anyone done it?
Hi I have a power steering pump from a volvo v50 so I am mounting in my Fc
And I dont know how to wire it.. I have seen on some posts that it only needs + and -, and the grey/blue to 12v and it should start. But mine does not do that when i test it. Do I need to fill it up with fluid before it starts? Anyone that could help me out with this? 😊
I will wire it up to my maxxecu race, but I want to make sure that it starts up before I do all that wiring..

Recommend doing some searching as it looks like this might have been done before, I’m not sure if the pump is exactly the same.
recommend reaching out to cardinell.

I did this swap recently. Fairly straightforward if you can find a way to mount it. I ended up making a custom bracket
The pump itself has 2 connectors. One big 2 pin connector and one small 3 pin connector.
The big 2 pin is power and ground for the pump. For power, you want 80a fused to a constant 12v source.
The 3 pin connector is CAN hi, CAN lo, and switched 12v. From what I understand, the CAN hi and lo are there for variable pump feedback depending on vehicle speed. (ie, more assistance at low speed, less at high speed). You can try and make them work with your ECU if you want, but I did not use these. The only one of these that is necessary is the switched 12v source.
As for the pump itself, fill it with fluid first before running it. Running it dry probably won't hurt it, but I wouldn't risk it.
The fun part of this whole swap was trying to find out what damn fluid to use in the pump. The original FC power steering system uses just good 'ol ATF. The Volvo pump uses CHF 11S. No bueno. After lots of back and forth I just decided to risk the pump and use ATF instead of running the CHF and potentially eating the seals in the rack. Easier to replace the former instead of the latter.
Hope this helps! If you have any questions, I'm happy to provide pics
