No, you said "probable cause is a healthy alternator", which isn't the most thorough explanation.

The FSM specs (12V) is for an engine with the ignition on but not running, hence the 14V confusion.

But full credit for pointing it out first.

I looked at the 91fsm and maybe you could try something a touch different. Connect the afm plug to the afm. Then go to the ECU and pull the plug off and get on pin 2K of the harness plug. Find a good ground for the meter and then see what the resistance is on the pin 2K.

If your not making the circuit from the 2K....then thru the afm to the Brown/Black ground wire. It's possible the Brown/Black wire is broken or not making contact with the afm's jack.

That might explain the 12v instead of 2-3volts. I noticed that this 2K is not really directly related to the 5v ref signal that is put out from 2I......so it might be a normal thing to see 12v on pin 2K if the circuit is not made to ground on the Brown/Black wire.

Sorry, don't have a series five afm and can't check mine out. It seems someone who might have a series five could just take his afm plug off then put a meter on 2K with the key to ON and see what if he gets 12v or ????? volts. Maybe that someone is out there and will do that for you. Probably NOT. Everyone seems to busy making cup holders and pouring cold water into the internals of a hot engine, something mom told me to try to avoid.

well i was confused because fsm says 14v @ idle for the injectors and a few other things.

The more I think about it the more I'm sure that you WILL see 12v on pin 2K IF the circuit is open i.e. not making it thru the afm to the ground. There is an open wire either b/t the ECU and the AFM or.....inside the AFM....or b/t the AFM and ground.
