Vids from Sears Point last weekend
Just thought maybe you guys would like to see Sears Point from my car
Saturday I ran Group 2, just to get a feel for the track (first time back since crashing last year), no need to be a hero. Lots of passing as a result, and a lot of boring slow following..
Lots of passing, including a nice 3 wide pass down the back straight.. Couldn't catch the Cobra R before the session ended, but I gave it my best shot
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-101202-session1.wmv
Session starts chasing Ralph Alexander, who is definitely THE MAN with NA 2nd gen RX-7s, then running behind Alan Blaine in his '94 Z28 ITE race car.. Who said live axles can't handle? Sure is nice to have 400HP on tap too Finish up with a late brake pass on a 240Z race car..
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-...-session3a.wmv
Music sucks on this one, didn't catch it until after I uploaded (too lazy to fix it), some footage of turn 1 thru 6 chasing a 300ZX, then running down an E46 M3, more Z car action, and a blazing pass by a CRX (instructor, probably waiting for the Z car).. Finally some tag with 911s.
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-...-session3b.wmv
Taking a friend's wife around, some Audi TT action, more Z cars, 1st gen RX-7, and a Spec Miata along with an E30 Bimmer..
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-...-session4a.wmv
Sunday I moved into Group4, which is open passing.. Getting more and more comfortable, my line is firming up, and I'm carrying way more speed than Saturday.
Chasing a 911 and 924 around, the 924 makes a pass that pisses off the 911 driver, and they almost touch going into turn 1.. The 911 gets balked, I have a great run thru 3a and turn 4, but he shuts the door.. More Z car stuff, then switch to chasing down another Spec Miata, and look who spun out, our friend the 911 Yes, that is a F355 in the final clip a different 911 and a Mustang get by me after the 355, with the 911 spinning in turn 11 (very common occurance apparently)http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-101302-session2.wmv
A 2:06 lap around Sears Point.. No music on this vid
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-101302-session3.wmv
E30 bimmer pass, chasing down a well driven 1st gen RX-7, beautiful crossover pass..
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-...-session4a.wmv
Mistakes are costly, almost spin in turn 11, then a miscue under braking into turn 4 and I have to let a different 1st gen RX-7 (driven by an instructor) go in turn 5.. US Touring Car Civic and a wicked 911 get by on the back section, and I almost spin again in turn 11 (rear tires got nice and gooey)
http://para.noid.org/~silkworm/spir-...-session4b.wmv
These vids are rather large (16-30mb), please save to your HDD.

Bingo,
Just gotta show up, I don't mind.
Brain, yeah there were a bunch of RX-7s out there, rather surprising, most of the time there aren't that many.

Damn man your RX7 is fast as ****!! passen porches and 300zs.....these are all N/A cars right? I can't believe how you walked on all those cars, what did you place....how hard is it to progress to your level, skill and rules and regulations.....

Silkworm- Nice recovery in the beginning of the last video and also at the end. Same hairpin with the tires slowing going away..... Good driving bro.
Did you see the baby blue RX-3 on the course tearing it up? That is my buddy Todd and it is a streetported 13B with 10K RPM limit!!!!
Now why has my car only been drag racing where the faster you are the less time you spend at the track.... and in road racing the faster you are you get to make more laps?????!!!!!!
I hope to make it out before the end of the year and try my car on either Sears/Thunder/Laguna.

Do you have a timing system in the car or is someone doing it for you? Your lapping looks pretty good. What tires are you using?
Mark (GNX7), next time NASA has an HPDE event, I will take your car out and show you how it's done. Been thinking of instructing for NASA anyways since they get to lap for free. I just hear it is somewhat scary if you get paired with an idiot which keeps me from being to motivated about it.

I can't wait to finish my TII project! I am nothing more than a Paint job away (money wise) .. then I want to make a track car similar to that out of my N/A ... it has over 200k miles on it .. it's time to retire it with dignity. I will be doing that by next year at this time. That looks like sooo much fun. I already got all my paperwork from the SCCA I sent away for a application and all the info they sent me a nice little packet to get me started.

Great videos!! Was that a Cavalier out there that I saw?
Also, I thought it was pretty cool watching the Porsche's air vent open and close. Was that a real Cobra R or a glorified GT?
Just full of questions today!!!!

Black, most of those were NA cars I think, I'm not good at telling Z cars, but they look like NAs anyway.. To get to my level? I've been doing this since 1998, mostly running my Trans Am, now running the RX-7.. I must say the RX-7 is much easier to control, but not quite as fast as the Trans Am.. But then 300HP is always nice to have
Mark,
Yeah, I saw the RX-3, very nice car! You should have came out Sunday!
Northern California Racing Club has a weekday event at Laguna mid December if you're interested..
RXHeaven,
Someone's timing for me.. I'm running 205/50/15 Toyo RA-1s, unshaved (well, they're about the shaved depth now)..
Boosted,
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's a Cobra R, had the goofy wing and badging.. Not a Cavalier, it was a Grand Am.. Rental car I think

I'm kinda surprised no one mentioned the shift light I wanted a sequential shiftlight after seeing the ALMS cars with them, and it works great...

Yo,
Good work Paulie! Sears Point is one of my favorite tracks, I've done multiple HPDE's there in my Scirocco. I even did an 8 hour open track! That's where you drive 'till you don't wanna drive no more! *grin*
Definitely is a handling track vs. a power track like Laguna Seca. My Scirocco did quite well there. I love 8 and 8a...I hate Turn 10, it always scared me. *grin*
Is that the shift light from Australia? I saw it in Fast Fours and Rotaries, like $100USD. Are you looking at it, or the big *** tach you have?
BTW, when we gonna pit crew for you? You said January?

Hey Kevin,
8a is the turn that scares me, but then that's for a good reason 1/2 is really the one that is sapping most of my speed, just gotta suck it up and keep my foot planted.. 10 doesn't bother me too much, but I need to work on using more track..
Yeah, it's from Austrailia.. Exchange rate makes it incredibly cheap The standard brightness is too dark, but I got a new one with their brighter bulbs, and that now works a lot better. I use the shiftlight most of the time, I don't even really look at the tach anymore. The tach is nice for looking at in the video though..
I'm going for my license on Nov 10, and then maybe, just maybe if they pass me, I'll have my first race on Nov 23rd.. So if you want to come out then, that would be great..

Yo,
Paulie, it's funny...I don't even use my stock tach anymore. When I'm railing around, it's all about feel...if the engine is running out of breath...shift...also the 8K buzzer is helpful. *grin*
We saw that shiftlight dohickey, how hard is it to install? I just don't think I'd use it. It looks cool as hell though. *grin*
Hopefully I can get some time off to pit crew for you, the car business is all about the weekends. I usually get one weekend off a month...maybe it'll be that weekend.
Thanks again for posting the vids!
