Very veryyyy confused.

The other day I was switching my plugs and I bought one completely wrong set. Today I got the right set for the leadings on the bottom. WELLLL! I opened one up, and it was the same exact size as my trailings. But this is why I'm confused.

The leadings on my GXL are bigger. I was looking and for turbo engines, they are different. I am thinking.. maybe I have a turbo engine? In my car, it doesn't have the top saying TII, so I'm highly confused. What plugs so I need to buy or what is going on.

I bought the car 2 weekends ago. Is it possible the guy had plugs for a turbo, and they fit in a NA? -_-

Oh, and my car is a 1989.

Leading plugs (bottom) are NGK BUR7EQs and they have an "L" on them. Trailing plugs (top) are NGK BUR9EQs and have a "T". Turbo engines use the exact same plugs stock. If you don't have an intercooler, or see intercooler piping, it's a safe bet you don't have a turbo engine. GXLs were non-turbo from the factory.

Yes, I know this. I just bought BUR7EQ's and they do not look like the leading NGK's in my engine right now. They are the same size as the BUR9EQ's I just bought.

EDIT: I have to go right now, but I'll be on in a few hours. If someone doesn't have any suggestions, I will take pics and post on here the different plugs.

Thank you!

All the plugs should be the same physical dimension.

Some twit has put the wrong plugs in.

The BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ are pretty much the same size. The overall length of the plug is identical; the only very slight difference is that the electrode tip on the 9EQ protrudes a tiny bit more from the ceramic insulator (I'm looking at a pair of them now). Is this what you're talking about?

I'm talking about the dimension on the part you have to screw in. My leadings are bigger and different than what the trailings in my engine are. o_o

What is the part number on the leading plugs currently in your engine? Is it also BUR7EQ? Are they even NGKs?

Fuc*ed up threads on the housing with a different spark plug. Maybe a thread insert in a housing came off with the spark plug from a previous 'fix'. That's the only thing that I can think of, until I see pics.

Could the possibility be the block is from a turbo? With removed intercooling and everything else? I'm going to go take out the plugs and look at it again, and I'll take pics cause the threads are different.

wouldnt matter if it is turbo or not, they all use the same spark plug, BUR7EQ leading and BUR9EQ trailing.

unless you have colder spark plugs or something.

The rotor housings(part of this "block") are the same between the turbo and n/a engines save for the defusers in the exhaust port of the N/A. AKA That is not it.

Thats not to uncommon with those plastic housings. Hopefully the bolts that hold it on dont break. Use PB blaster before you try taking them out, that rock salt from the winters has prolly started to cause some corrosion. Good luck.

I am having my father take it to his work (he works at a GMC dealership, running service) and he's going to fix the plastic housing with what they do up there for diesels and such that have radiator pieces crack. The part going into the hose was broken off, which I just found out taking it out. The bolts were fine.

With the plug, someone must of drilled into it and all that was on the plug was a easy out. Hahaha, no flaming, I feel like a dumbass but I took both plugs out looked and it was obvious. =)

Now after those two fixes, I got to fix the alternator belt, which I have, but have held off for 2 days cause I got to take like 3 other belts off to put this one on. Tomorrow I'll be doing all of this.

Thanks to everyone for your help ;D

If you don't know the age of the other belts, why not replace them all? Like you said, you have to take them all off to get to the alternator belt...
