Very Important Battery Question... 700 COLD CRANKING>>???

hello guys my alternator quit on me. could it have been the battery? 700 cold cranking and 875 cranking at regular temperature. I have a 88 rx-7 n/a manual. Im buying a new oem alternator i don't want it to blow up should i replace the battery for something lower?? or should I be okey? please help me!!

NO the battery's power should have nothing to do at all with your alternator dying (this is coming from a sears auto tech who deals with this all day long) in fact, i think haveing that many cranking amps is great! my rx7 starts up every time now (i have 950 ca) instead of it ALWAYS haveing problems with a smaller power batt.
