Very high exaust temp but cat cutted?!?

The temp. of my exaust line is very high, but my cat is gutted. Any one have an idea of what it could be ?

Worn out sparkplug can be the cause?

hard to tell, its a N/A and i dont have A/F gauge, should i get one just for that, or its no problem with n/a normaly?
I can try the normal thing, clean fuel pump filter inlet, clean fuel filter, and get new sparg plug...
But can it be the cause?

Anyone know the normal operating temperature of a N/A stock exaust with gutted cat ?

Cause if someone told me, i will comparate with mine. (I'll be using aei DT200 with "wire type" prope.)
Any thermometer with "wire type" prope will get the same reading.

If, after basic tune-up procedures, you still think the EGT is high, drive around with a meter on the O2 sensor input on the ECU (neg lead to ground)...During cruise, the meter should be bouncing back 'n forth between .4 and .5 volts...If not, you have other problems (sensor inputs, ECU, injectors, etc...)

retarded timing could cause higher than normal exhaust temps. or something causing it to run lean

why do you say is is too hot anyways? w/ out an EGT guage or a laser thermometer thing, you really cant say its too hot. compared to other cars I'd say RX-7s seem to be a lot hotter in the exhaust area but thats just the way they are

That's true too- there's basically a rolling flame coming out of that rotor housing..."hot" is a relative term when comparing rotary & pistons...

I have a gutted cat, but I have not noticed any changes in temperatures. Of course I haven't thrown a thermometer on it, but I never got the ol' "overheat exhaust" warning.
