vert trunk release

Has anyone figured a way to fix that stupid weak Mazda design on the trunk release??
After a while the plastic ring gets worn and when you pull the release cable, it pops off the bracket and cannot use the trunk release.

Another ****** weak design.

And no...it's not a high mileage car and no rust/ corrosion.

Putting a plastic ring around a metal bracket...shees...c'mon.

I had two trunk actuators lying around. one was from a ford and the other was from an 03 maxima. Wired them to a toggle switch in the front. Worked out well. Gave up on the cables.
