Vert top leak.

Hi all new around here. I have an 89 vert I bought a few months ago. The seals for the top are starting to leak pretty badly. I want to get the proper seals, however the cost of all the seals I need is going to be tough at one time. Anyone know of any quick fixes in the meantime while I piece together all the seals I need? Maybe some thin weather stripping or something like that? Or someplace that has them for a good price. I am going to a pull a part this weekend to look for odds and ends...but georgia weather sucks this time of year. I was a bit surprised at the price the seals run in Vic cat. So if anyone has any temp fix ideas I would love to hear them.

temp fix, leave the top down, put the windows up, and don't park it, keep it moving. when you need to stop for gas most gas stations have cover thingys over the pumps so that will keep the water out when you have to stop, but other than that just keep driving. i made ~150 mile trip the other day, it was raining when i left, i said fuckit so i put the top down in the rain and got on the interstate, not a drop touched my head. gotta love aerodynamics

The above post is absolutlely useless for in town driving, which is where most of us live. It also means squat when you park it, as you mentioned. Not very practical advice.

If the top is leaking from the little cups in the front corners, check to make sure they are attached to the targa seal- a little silicone will fix that right up for a bit. If the leak is coming from anywhere else around the door, you might try putting some THIN weatherstripping between the original seal and the door surround, kind of "wedging" the seal further outward so it makes contact with the door glass more snugly.

I hope that makes sense, and remember- this is only a temporary fix until you can score some new ones.

Stay dry!!

you can rub some atf (auto trans fluid) and the seals will swell up. But get yourself a Victoria british catalog. I just ordered one and it has all the different seals and parts in it for reasonable prices compared to the dealership. A must have catalog for a vert owner.

The way I handled the leaks on the 'cups' on the side is I crammed a whole lot of paper in there whenever it rains :P

The little rips and tears in the top get some RTV Ultra Black

. . . yeh, I'm poor, but it works
