vert top computer i think (searched)

so i just got my car back its an s5 vert and i thought i was having problems with the switch....so i had it replaced. well i put the top down tonight dispite the cold weather thinking i would be able to get it back up well to my suprise (sarcastic) it didnt come back up. well hmm i know the motors work, the switch was just replaced. the only thing left is the computer in the kick panel on the drivers side. well my rx7 guy told me to unplug the computer and plug it back in to make it work again. he even demostrated that for me and it worked for him. so i was like cool. well when i tried it didnt work. and still isnt working. what do you guys think.

also if it is the computer what is a reasonable price for a used one from a parts car?

Try longer....it takes a few for comps to be erased.....explain that to my Aftermarket radio..... For some reason If I dis/con the batt for longer than an hr it works, and when it desides it isn't gonna work I have to d/c (disconnect) the batt for the before mentioned amount of time and PRESTO....all I can say is, how long are you D/Cing for? If you say only for 15 secs or something like that then try for longer. Like I said comps take a bit of time to erase mems.....

there are two motors. each one has a limit switch on it. I had the same problem, we sprayed a little contact cleaner on the limit switch and the problem went away. As far as I know the CPU has nothing to do with the top. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

There is no computer that controls the top.

They are controlled only by the switch and motors.

Have you jumpered the top diagnostic plug to open and close the top, to confirm it is not the switch?

how do you jumper the top diag plug? the switch works to go down all the time but to go up its just when it wants to. its done it on both of the switches ive put on it. i only disconnect the top plug on the computer that i was told controls the switch and the motor..... ok so i just looked at the FSM and from what i see the plug i was told to unplug actually has the parking brake switch in it so maybe its not sensing(?sp) that the parking break is on....but why would it always work going down but not up?......hmmmm any help is greatly apriciated.

There normally is a diagnostic jumper plug on the passengers shock tower, it will have the leads directly to the motors, as well as ignition. You can jumper over the pins to make the top go up or down. This is in case there is a malfunction with the switch.

Now, I haven't checked to see if the plug is there on SRS equipped verts, but it is there on the Non SRS verts.

You can check the parking brake circuit, by simply pulling up the brake with the key on. The idiot light on the dash should light up. If the idiot light is not lighting up when you pull the parking brake on and the key is on, then you will need to check out the parking brake switch in the handle assembly

I once had a problem with my top (when the car was new)... I made the limit switches go wonky by forcing the top not to pause when going up or down.

The result was that it would not move more than an inch either way.

At that time, I was told by Mazda that there are two computers controlling the top. They removed them, checked them, found no problems, and replaced them - at no charge! The top has never glitched since (16 years).

Now Mark says there are no computers in the top and I tend to trust his opinions where the vert is concerned...

So, maybe the mech meant that there are two circuit boards in play when operating the top. I would take a good look at both these boards.

Reseating them both may solve the problem.
