Vert side mirrors

Can anyone tell me if the convertible side (door) mirrors are the same design as the other models? I need a replacement electric mechanism and glass on the driver side, along with any pointers on how to replace without breaking it again.!

The 88 'vert uses the same mirrors as the 87-88 t2 and the 88 GTU.

The 89-92 US spec vert uses the same mirror as all the other US spec 89-91 FCs.

However all FC mirrors are interchangeable, so you could use 86 manual control mirrors on a 92 'vert if you so desired.

To remove, pull off the triangle panel by poping up the side that is as far front of the door as possible first.

Then there will be 3 gold colored screws, simply unscrew them. If they are tight spray a little WD-40 or your favorite penetrant on them and let them sit overnight.

Once the screws are out, unplug the power plug and you are ready to go.

Thanks for the info. I did get the housing off the door as you described. I need to put the new guts into the old housing - the car was painted and another red housing probably wouldn't match. But the mounting screws for the motor are behind the mirror and the mirror is attached to the motor, so it looks like a catch-22 situation.

Your best bet is too tape off the mirror and repaint the housing with the mirror still in it.

I'd have to agree with that.
