Vert project pics, new paint, rims, etc.

Here is my winter project. I traded for it used and abused from a guy who had transplanted a jspec engine and turbo drivetrain, only to have it blow after 3 months IIRC. Anyway, I put a stock engine and drivetrain back in it for the time being, and will explore engine mods at a later time.

Here is a list of mods.

-new blaze red paint
-mitsubishi 3kGT wing
-89-91 turbo front lip
-89-91 turbo sideskirts
-power antenna relocated 2" forward to accomodate the wing
-custom catback (cheap mufflers, man do they sound deep)
-turbo hood
-front turnsignals converted to eurospec with seperate turn and parking lights
-silver reverse glow gauges
-MOMO shift ****
-FD efini japanese steering wheel
-custom shift boot and e-brake boot, made by Ralf Wilms in SC (vertrx7@yahoo.com)
-Kenwood japanese MD/CD/MP3 deck
-89-91 coupe console (holds MD's perfectly)
-18" x 8.5" MOMO sport wheels and tires
-foglights rewired to run anytime I switch them on (versus only with headlights on lowbeam)

Here are some pics with the stock wheels, and more with the 18's.

wow, those 18" momo's look like they should be accompanied by some HUGE amounts of bass with the top down. aren't those heavy? i had some 17x8 momo sports they were 46lbs with Potenza's on them. huge difference over those vert wheels

How much are you offering? Ah, I'll prolly keep them, theyre nice wheels in case I get tired of the 18s one day.

and did you have to do any modification to the steering wheel / hub to get the efini wheel on
I had to trim about 1/8" material off the back of the wheel to gain clearance for the column covers, and I had to remove the turn angle cancel sensor/rotor from the steering column for it to fit at all, the FD one is apparently much flatter. As a consequence now I have to cancel my own turns.

but where are the 18s?
Didnt wait for the last few pics to load huh? lol theyre in there.

aren't those heavy? i had some 17x8 momo sports they were 46lbs with Potenza's on them. huge difference over those vert wheels
Hell yeah theyre heavy as a bitch. But, hell, it's a 'vert, so it really doesnt matter. Im not out to make this a fast car, just a nice one.

Why did you switch the drive train back?
Well, I decided not to run a turbo engine for the time being. So, I didnt need the drivetrain either. It adds almost 100lb to the car which isnt necessary. Plus, Im now running an ultra rare 3.9 LSD from an AT GXL, this helps me keep the revs and noise down on the highway, and this is important seeing how it is a 'vert with an exhaust (more for looks than performance). Plus, I took some of the money I got from the drivetrain and put it back into some of the other mods for the car. I felt it would be best if it looked nice before I tried to make it fast.

Always got something hidden up your sleeve! I don't like the 18's all too much, think the vert ones looked better. The wing looks pretty damn nice, where'd you come up with that idea? And what kind of cheap mufflers are those and are you still runnin the cats on that?

PM me in private

Always got something hidden up your sleeve!
What, you dont think I can go rex-less do you? lol

I don't like the 18's all too much
I think you either hate em or love em. Im undecided as of yet...I bought em off ebay for dirt cheap, so either way it doesnt matter. They still retail for $400+ EACH rim, IIRC it was $479. IF I wanna sell em, I wont lose out.

The only thing I dont like about em is the fact that they stick out a little more than Id like. Theyre actualy offset and sized more for something like a 300Z or 3kGT, but I have no rubbing problems as of yet.

think the vert ones looked better.
Think so? I think they look good, but are just too small for the car, especially with the ground effects now. IM stil seriously thinking of getting some s5 t2 rims and putting on it.

The wing looks pretty damn nice, where'd you come up with that idea?
About 6 months or more ago I saw a post in the FS section where a guy had a turbo vert same color as mine with that wing, and I promptly had to find out what it was from. It fits the car so well.

And what kind of cheap mufflers are those
3A racing or some ****? I got em free, along with the catback (2.25" pipe) on a partscar.

and are you still runnin the cats on that?
Yes, the stock precat and main cat are intact, but not for long. I plan to remove the main cat and put a pipe in it's place. IM worried it will become quite a bit louder with the catback though, so I might ahve to find a presilencer or something. Right now the sound is PERFECT. IT is deep as hell, and not really intrusive on the road.

Nice, that's how I'm hoping my NA setup ends up (with those el cheap-o bomz evo things) I do agree that the vert rims look too small for the car, didn't you have a set of s5 TII rims you sold for dirt cheap not too long ago? I've been trying to find a set for so long I think i've been looking longer than i had the car! Is that the same car I bought the AFM from?

Kevin, are you into performance at all, as in like drag racing, auto xing, etc? With your know how you could build an awsome 1/4 mile beast! Nice vert though, looks nice! Oh and, is that your house? Is that where you do your work then too or do you have a seperate place for RR?

Kev, now all you need is the silver wheel lip trim from the parts car and you are golden!

Where did you end up getting it painted?
