ok so with the trunk/ hatch cables what cable is longer? if the vert has the shorter cable you should beable to swap in the longer cable with no issues... or so im thinking they are both incased in a sleve so im thinking that other than having a bit more cable to route diffrently that it would be the same end result.

One is overall length and as you've correctly noted, an overall "longer" cable could probably be made to work.
Nearly every Japanese car uses cable release devices and they are remarkably similar in detail. You could probably find a suitable cable on a Honda or Toyota, both of which are abundant in junkyards.
The second critical dimension is the free length of the cable- i.e., how much extends beyond the outer sleeve. This is basically the working length of the mechanism and needs to be right, regardless of overall length.
The stock cable end (the ball/barrel/whathaveyou on the end) is soldered on but replacement cable ends are available that screw on (Ace has several sizes in stock) and if you have enough free length to work with, the stock end can be cut off and the replacement installed to give whatever length you need.
It's probable that your stock cable can be "fixed" but if not, a replacement should be easy to find.

Yes. I noticed that the slot was bent a little so I straightened it out. After that I squeezed the slot a bit & pressed the cable back in. This is what I did & was enough to keep the cable from popping out.
