Vert Headrest Speakers

Hey everyone. I have an aftermarket radio in my car and I am not running the speakers through the stock amps anymore. I have everything hooked up but I can not figuire out how to hook up the headrest speakers. ive tried to pull the wire out from under theats but they always get stuck on something. I have an S4 so having the speakers on the door panel rather then near your feet(S5) it helps a little but I dont like turning my radio up extremly loud to just barely be able to hear the music. Any help would ge awesome. Thanks

All you ever wanted to know about the convertible wiring is in the FSM on this site, section 15 starting at page 183.

I have posted numerous times regarding this. I have an aftermarket deck in my convertible and I (for a while) ran the stock headrest speakers and stock controls just fine. Now I have them hooked to my amp, though.

The headrest speaker amp is supplied signal (music) by the rear channel plug. SO long as you hook your deck up this way, all you have to do for it is supply switched ignition power to a single wire, which is the amp's remote turn-on wire. I think it is brown and red. I jumpered mine over to the red switched ignition lead.

COurse this is for an 89 not an 88, wire colors may be different, but by examining the aftermarket plug adaptors it shouldnt be too hard to figure out which wire in the bundle isnt being used anymore...that one is most likely the amp turn-on that the stock deck used to operate.

If you won't look yourself because you are too tired why should we help you???

Anyway,

On the 88 (a little different than the 89-91) there are no rear speakers. And the door speakers are only woofers, with their own dedicated sub-woofer amp.

On the 88 The head rest speakers are also driven by their own dedicated amp (just like the door woofers) that gets its signal from the front speakers. Normally wiring in the front speakers is sufficent to provide an input into the switch and amp.

But you say you have removed all the amps??? Well then I would wire past the stock head rest amp and right too the speakers. The colors are standard Mazda speaker wire colors:

The drivers seat speaker wires are:
L+ Blue/Yellow
L- Blue/White
R+ Blue/Black
R- Blue/Red

the passengers seat speaker wires are:
L+ Blue/Yellow
L- LightGreen
R+ Blue/black
R- LightGreen/Yellow

Of course you should wire those on the rear output of your aftermarket radio, and wire the door speakers and dash speakers on the front channels of your aftermarket radio (so you can fade the rears out).
