I also agree that price=longevity. Especially when it comes to stereo components. With that said, I have always gone with Pioneer speakers for anything from 3-1/2" to 6x9". All four of my rides have them. They are not the most expensive in the broad array of speaker possibilities. As for duribility, I have a set of 3-way 6x9's that have been in my custom short bed pickup for 7 years without failing. Blisfully handeling 150 watts RMS each. My $.02

By the way, what has everyone done about wiring the headrest speakers to an aftermarket head unit? My dash and door speakers are being run off of it untill I complete my system install. Then they will be powered by their own amp. Should I run the headrest speakers off of the deck or a seperate amp(I too will be replacing the factory speakers)?

with or without replacing factory speakers, run them off of the wires in the seats if you want the 'wiring' to be descrete. You'll find the wire connectors under the seat, they're pretty obvious. Otherwise run them down behind thew seats, I suggest underneath the center-console. I currently have the stock tweeters run onto the rear channel. Right seat right rear channel, left seat left rear channel, on my after market deck. My intention after puting in my own speakers is to run each 'side' of the seat off of each 'side' channel. I don't think it'll be necissary to run them off of anything more powerful than a regular head-unit - you don't need 'that much' power coming out from right behind your ears.

So let me get this straight.

My intention is to wite 50 watt speakers to the headrests, making the rear channel 4 speakers. I would split RL to the left speakers on each seat, and RR to the right speakers on each seat. On my 50x4 alpine head unit, will this work?

Front channel would be similar, dash and door on the front channel. All speakers 50 watt capacity.
essentially I'm splitting each channel to two speakers

Also , I have a question about sub placement.

I have plans to make my own box for a twelve inch behind the driver seat, underneath the spare-tire cover, the "bin" location.

My buddy had his twelve in the trunk, and it resonated geat, but took up space. The reason I want to put the sub underneath the top is to preserve space, but will it still sound as good as putting it in the trunk? Can anyone vouch for this?

You will be presenting your Alpine head unit with a 2 ohm load on all four channels.

I don't think this is a good idea, unless the specs say that the internal amp is rated for 2 ohms. Your head unit may overheat, distort, burnup, or it may work just fine. It's a crapshoot. If you take this approach, be prepared for another step if you have troubles. You will need to add an amp for front and rear that can handle the 2 ohm load.

I am not trying to scare you off of trying this and to be honest, I would give it a try if I were replacing my head unit.

Good luck and let us know how it works.
