vert doesnt seem right

simply enough my 91' vert just doesnt feel like it has the power it should. this is my second fc my other is an 88 n/a and these are two completely different cars powerwise. power is ok up to about 4K then is about dead until about 5.5K when the vdi kicks in and it dead again by 6.5K, i could probably get it to the 8 grand redline if i held it in second gear for a long time, but i doubt it in any other gears, theres just no power up top.
plugs arent bad, new wires, havnt checked the 02 sensor, OMP seems to be delivering a bit too much oil no leaks in the engine bay but seems to go through about 1 quart per thousand miles. motor has about 4K on a rebuild. decent idle, car runs fine, just no power ive been through my 88 entirely so im pretty confident in all of its systems, i just know that these cars do have there odd little bugs, aka 3800 hesitation etc. just wondering if it could be something im unaware of

(just for comparison)88 pulls great- no emmions, msd 6a, 6port sleeve inserts, 6ports wired open(i know i know only bottom end loss) k&n cone filter and full headerback exhaust.

91 'vert slow as hell- all stock, functional VDI, but the one of the 6 ports are stuck closed until i decide to rip off the intake manifold.

obviously weight and mods are a factor, but it should be this slow, could one 6port sleeve be the root of so much power loss?

Well, you have the answer in your question. With one of your secondary ports stuck closed, you should miss much of the enhancement of te 6 ports opening at 3800 rpm. Then, the VDI opens gives a little help, but the breathing is still stuffed up. Therefore, you are getting exactly what I would expect.

You have some work to enhance the upper end on the 88 and you have some problems that inhibit the upper end on the vert. Add a couple of hundred pounds difference and you have accounted for much of your issue.

Fix the ports, put in some pineapple sleeve inserts like your '88, add a header. Then come back and tell us it's better but still slow...

Good Luck!

yeah i know that is impeding performance, no doubt, it just seems rather extreme for one nonfunctional 6port sleeve

i in no way expect it to stack up to my 88' coupe but ive driven a bone stock 88' vert minus a catback and it was even a big difference

Do this as an experiment to verify:

Keeping your lips pressed tightly together, stick your left index finger up your left nostril.

Now see how fast you can run.

Fix your car, it will help. If you find something else broken, fix that too.

Good Luck!

You are welcome. Now for my next ****-
ogy:

Add to the above scenario to simulate both the stuck 6th port and the stock exhaust system. While running as fast as you can with the left index finger up the left nostril, take the right thumb and stick it in your......uh, never mind.

I'll be here all week.
