Vehicle Registration

My seven is getting close to being done and I do not have the papers on it. I got it from a mecanic's shop where the guy had left it and did not want to get it fixed. He did not have the title for it and so the shop never got one either. I bought it from the shop. I live in GA and I did a carfax search. It has a clean title but it does not tell me who owned in last. How do you get a tag? I have heard of title bonds through insurance co.s but I do not know what or how much those are.

I got my car basically the same way... but from the Mazda dealership. What they had to do is take out a mechanics lein on it.

Basically it's just a bunch of questions about how they obtained the car, if they have tried to contact the original owner and what not. If it's not claimed after a certain amount of time, they can get a title in whoever's name the car is going to be owned by.

Luckily they did all that for me. But, you must make every attempt to get ahold of the original owner. And the owner can take back possession of the vehicle.

I would suggest going to the DMV, getting the registered owners information and the paperwork to fill out. You can also call the police and have them try to contact the owner. That way it is on record, especially if they can't find the owner.

Dont tell the owner the car is fixed. He/she may say "you have my car". If this person is an A-hole, he/she can probably file a stolen car report and the cops will take the car back. Don't know if this can actually happen BUT just tell the owner that you want to fix the car and need the papers.

You can go to the DMV and tell them you want to Lien sale a car. I think they send out a letter to the last registered owner and this person has to reply saying they want the car or not reply at all. Ask your local DMV for more accurate info. It shouldnt be that hard to register it.
