vacuum routing...*puts on flame suit*

ok saturday i spent about 2 hours searching different terms and trying to compile a list of exactly where to put the hoses...
heres my setup

s4 engine core
s5 lower and upper intake

now... i have no emmissions, so what i need to know is exactly (and i do mean specifics) where each hoses connects to and where it came from... i know there are only a few hoses that NEED to be hooked up, but i ran into some problems...

i dont know if its cause they are jspec upper and lower intakes, but the lower seems to have several more vaccum nipples than my s4 lower intake did, so it just gets confusing...

so i know what your thinking and im going to hear you should have searched several times,but trust me i did search (for several hours), but i still dont have a true complete guide to hook these up.

most of the posts consisted of someone saying "plug this anywhere before the throttle body (example), but i need to know specifics..
like i want someone to tell me " the vaccum spider connects to the oil injectors and runs to the (insert part here).. so on and so forth...
im competent enough to do this, but i need a step by step guide that is broken down to simple terms...


if i can get a respnse like this from someone then i think my car will be running in a few weeks...

i also need the same type guide for the wiring harness, .. remember i dont have emissions...

seriously if anyone can give me help on this, your helping another TII get back on the road... i implore you to please help get my baby back

lol i never did get specifics, you'll get lucky if you get any...

The injector bleeders go to a port that leads before the tb plates. Best suggestion I had was to either leave them stock or to get a big fatty and breathe smoke through all the ports till i found the one that comes before the plates.
I'm not a smoker, so mine are still capped off...

injector bleeders?

is that the vaccum lines that connect to the oil injectors?

seriously guys, i need dummy language conversion here

uhh oh yeah, the oil injectors goto a gang valve and then to one of the emissions solenoids I went premix..so not sure where those go.

the fuel injector bleeders however goto a vac before the tb plates. There are three of them, one for each secondary, and one for the primaries on the block. err... maybe thats backwards? Anyhow yeah. The FPR gets vac from anything that actually leads to a runner, I chose one that sits right above the LIM that i could look directly in and see it goes directly into the runner...

Is this an na or turbo?

turbo with no emmissions

but like i said, im going to need the following

vaccum spider connects the oil injectors to (insert part here)

people are going to say connect it before the throttle body and stuff like that, but please humor me and say instead the exact part you would recommend it go to

i really appreciate any pertinent replies, as i need to get the car runnning....its been sitting on stands for a year now

i have the service manual but reading it is like translating greek or something...

and by spider i mean the connector that takes the one vac tube and splices it into 4 other ones to connect to the oil injectors.. sorry for the mixup

Since you're wearing a flame suit, you won't mind me making these three points. First, if you had traced the lines as you removed them, you would know where they go, since the manifolds are very similar. The S5 FSM has a vac routing diagram on page F2-7 that is clear enough to follow where everything runs. I know because I've done it. third, I've personally posted this info literally dozens of times, so if you search properly you will find it. I'm not ragging on you, just giving you some advice.

The J-spec manifolds should have less nipples than the US ones. Mine does.

For the engine to run, you really only need one line. That's for the FPR, and it goes to the angled nipple on the inside of the LIM (not one of the UIM nipples). If you have the OMP still, you need to connect the air line from the 4-way splitter to the big nipple on the back of the UIM behind the TB. The fuel injector air bleeds are connected to the two smaller nipples above that one.

Here's a pic I've posted before. S5 is basically the same (just ignore the twin-scroll actuator).

yeah i knows its been posted several times, but i suck...

the reason i havent traced the lines, is because i had to pull the blown engine out of my car, and i am installing it all on a new s4 engine... but we removed the engine 7 months ago, and when we originally did the removal it was mid december and freezign and that alone was over a year ago...

btw, dont repace the brake booster side vacuum hose. there is a stupid special checkvalve that mazda wants $30 for. I learned the hardway. No decent braking until friday when it comes in from the dealer...

This one contradicts yours a bit.

The Secondary FPR is connected to the UIM instead of the angled nipple and the OMP one went into the middle nipple.

Also what if we want to retain our FPR solenoid so we don't get hot start problems? What would we do? Just reroute the FPR line through that solenoid?

The FPR should be connected to the same nipple that Mazda originally used, which is the one inside the LIM. They probably had a good reason to add a specific connection for the FPR in that location, so that's what I'd stick with. The OMP air line is bigger than the others, so it'll be obvious which nipple to use.

Yep, it's that easy. Just make sure the solenoid valve is oriented the correct way (see the FSM). Good to see someone keeping the useful stuff and only chucking out the redundant stuff.

Cool. I am planning on using a Dremel/cutting disk on my Spider to remove useless lines. Or maybe buying some new piping. I'd prefer a metal hardline in the hotspots(especially for fuel).

I'm going off the of my head now since I'm at work and away from a FSM.
The other 2 solenoids did something like AWS and something else....(what?)

Do I keep any hard lines for the Purge system?or can I just run softies for most of it/until the firewall line?

The ACV had a bunch of Vac lines. What the hell did they do? Tell the ACV where to route air some how?

I'm ACV'less right now but in 1 1/2 years I have to pass emissions. I only need a cat,air pump, and acv, and purge tank to pass here.

The two other solenoids are for the switching and relief valves in the ACV. Basically they control how and when the ACV does its thing. The vac lines you mention went to and from those solenoids (see the diagram on page F2-57 of the FSM).

I can't see any problems with running everything in rubber lines, including fuel. They'll give you the flexibility to mount things where you want.

I think you got the right idea on just running soft lines. I'm lazy and I like that.

Although I have to cut the boost controller lines from the stock oil pipe on the S5 rack.

Arg.
I guess I'll just keep the small solenoid rack or fab a mount for it and the purge system.

Then just run some lines to the acv and mount an airpump and get a cat when it comes to emissions time.
Or just run some silly hoses to nothing ato make it look like it works hehe

I've considered removing my vac rack and remounting the twin-scroll and fuel pressure solenoids (no emissions equipment, no testing), but if you still have the stock intercooler, there's no real point since you can't see any of it anyway. You'd have to look quite hard to tell what's missing. If you need this stuff on later, you might as wel just leave it there.

I have emissions in Sept. 05.
I am probably goin to make a small mount for the solenoids so I can just route vac lines to them and the ACV(when I put it back on) when it comes to emissions time. I know they can't see **** under the TMIC but How will the cat get air unless the ACV is working?

Is there a way to wire the ACV to just route all air to the cat instead of to silencer/etc? By this time I'll have to get an air pump too

where does the boost sensor go? do you even need it? im not sure what exactly it does, so can someone explain it?

Hell yes you need it. The ECU retards ignition as boost increases to prevent detonation, so it must know what the boost level is.
