vacuum leak..idle..BAC..etc etc

I'm pretty sure I have a vacuum leak somewhere and it's causing my engine to die at idle. I want to spray some carb cleaner around to find it but I can't keep it running while I'm under the hood.. so I was wondering.. can I use the screw on the BAC to raise the idle to around 1000-1100 or so? Should I use something else to raise it? Also, if I do use the BAC, how do I "jumper" the coupler?

thanks
