V-belts, I needs a suggestion.

My alternator belt keeps slipping now that I have replaced it with an autozone junk belt, then now a gates belt. I originally had a Goodyear gator belt and it didnt slip at all, but they seem to be gone now.

It just slips at idle, and yes I got the tension correct.
I saw this...

CARQUEST by Dayco V-Belt, Top Cog 15315: Advance Auto Parts

Work okay? My last gator belt lasted 8 years with no slipping and I honestly wish I would have never replaced it.

Thoughts?

Trying to remember your alternator-Bosch rebuild? Is it stock output with no upgraded capacity? 80 amp stock capacity?

If so, then no belt should be slipping and failing when properly tensioned, unless there is another problem.

Check your alt pulley. If it has been slipping long enough, it can wear develop slightly curved sides. Once this happens, the pulley will wear belts out quickly. This situation usually happens on electric motor pulleys when the belt wears a little.

BTW, my S5 N/A Vert has the Original 130 Amp Taurus Alternator. Standard size pulley, it has never slipped.

Good luck!

You've got to be careful with those Gilmer drives...most of them are junk **cough** Rotary Works **cough** and the pulleys will literally spin apart. The belt guides are just pinched onto the pulley body, no structure whatsoever.

There's a thread where I posted a picture of mine after only a quick test drive down the street at WOT. Not to mention the alignment was all off and required shimming to get it set up.

I had the Bosch alt but it started to seize up and died. I replaced it with an autozone alternator because I needed one same day. I wanted another Bosch one but that would have taken two days.

The belt doesn't squeel or anything, you can just tell that it is slipping some at idle.

The pineapple one you are referring to was the yoohoo belt. Not necessary since I have dual pulley and air pump, besides, they don't carry it anymore.

I bought a gates belt today ($27!) and the belt material looks completely different than the rubber $7 belt that is on there. I hope it's worth the extra $20.

I found this Bando one on Rockauto. I for some reason I thought they were the stock belts but not sure.
https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...id=402&jpid=14

That said I've been using this line of Gates for along time.
https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...id=402&jpid=23

Except I have to use a longer one than that one since my alt. pulley is an under drive one.
The Bando is 2.79 and the Gates is 7.39 from Rockauto.

Nosferatu, yeah that's what it looks like..reminds me of fine felt.

Dak, seems to me the gates belt I bought is the top of the line version you linked.

Now if I can find time to put it on my car

I believe the water pump pulleys are a different size, but don't hold me to that

When I look at the 7320 belt it looks too short to me. The alt has a wide range for belt tension so I am not worried about it.

Being married with a child is a bitch, I was going to put the belt on today but I guess it's going to have to be tommorow.

I used to run NAPA belts with good results until the NAPA parts store went out of business. I think the NAPA belts were manufactured by either Gates or Goodyear. I've recently installed belts that I bought from Rock Auto. They were I believe Goodyear belts the Rock Auto was selling at close out prices. Someting like a buck or two per belt. So far, they've been working great!
