Using an engine stand w/o adapter?
Ok so I'm in kind of a bind here. I gathered the parts I need to fix my oil pressure problem (hopefully) and have it all set up to start work tomorrow night when I find out my engine stand adapter is missing!! Apparently my parents threw it away when cleaning through some stuff in our storage room, nice of them to ask me first...
I don't have time to get a new one and I need to get these problems fixed tomorrow because I have no other time against except in another couple of weeks (at earliest).
So the question is, how can I go about bolting the engine to a normal engine stand without an adapter? I know a couple of ways but I need to be able to turn the engine on its side (vertically).
Any input appreciated!!

cut the engine stand head in half verticaly, and poke 2 holes in it to bolt the front side housing to it using the two studs that hold the power steering/ac bracket on.
ill post pics, im installing adobe photoshop so i can convert bmp to jpeg... and my camera sucks a lot of ***. (1/10 megapixel -- pencam)

here they are... i used this to bolt the long block to, and tore the engine down with this setup, but because its off centered be prepared to tighten the **** out of the nut that locks the head to the stand... have something ready and nearby to tighten it while you position the engine where you want it.

I just went (going) through what your going through. Here are pics
The first one is mounted from the tranny mounts. It rotated but was very top heavy and would want to "capsize" if I didn't watch it.
the second two are what I made when I had to break it open and wanted to mount it to the pulley mounts. I don't think you are breaking down your motor that far are you??

When I built my bridgeport 12a, I took out the studs in the front plate that holds the ac and ps bracket. Found the right size bolts and bolted the stand through 2 of the arms into the plate. Even with the engine fully built and the Holley carb on it, it is very well balanced and I can rotate it to any position with little effort.
