Icemark please read oil/carbon deposits

this is probably in the archives but, i cant locate it. I just recently gut my cats and now the car is running like $#%@ and oil/ carbon is coming out of the mufflers any ideas on what the hell this is? like the name says im new to this.

Its a 1989 gxl, i had the bonez superflo cat or whatever that was, but it wasnt doin anything anymore so i gut it. there was only one cat. Its still an NA.

Running rich would explain the shitty mpg wouldnt it? like 13-17 city maybe 21 highway. or could poor compression have something to do with that as well? in either case wtf do i do about it?

yes on both cases...

As far as what to do about it... you would want to do (or have done a compression check). If it is low, you would want to look at rebuilding or replacing the motor.

If compression is good, then you start the normal troubleshooting as found in the factory manuals

Hang on, ive got some other details i shouldve mentioned before. It pops alot when i rev it up and when i down shift to let the engine slow me down, thats points more towards running really rich doesnt it?

the bonez was burnt up, wasnt doin **** when i first got it the car was actualy tolarable to stand behind then it went back to smellin like a carbed v8 with no cats. so i said screw it and gut them. i disconnected the airline cuz it was rattling. im pretty sure thats why it burnt up.
