URGENT : What did I Blown ?

I was on my way back home on the highway, since i saw no one there I was testing how far can my 4th gear go, when it get to around 5000, i heard something popped , and then the RPM started going crazy, i thought i blown an apex seal or something, i was like i still got 20 minute to get home. but then the RPM meter gone to zero and car still running fine. for the next 20 minutes all i can think of is make it back home safe. the car idles fine on the red light, and it runs normal except the RPM is at zero

after I got home i turn it off and tried to turn it on, i heard the starter clicks real quick 1000 times kinda crazy but it wont start. so i think it might be the starter problem but i just have no idea. are there any method to check the starter other taking it out from the car ?

oh and the car sometimes will smell like .. burning rubber coming out from ... the rear tire or something. no i didnt do burnout / peel off at all. i baby the car more then myself can ever imagine. I had 2 other 7's never smell anything like that.

its 2.am in the morning and I have a real important appointment 3 hours away from me next tuesday.

question is as title, what did i blown

btw my car is a 88 N/A vert bone stock with 16x,xxx miles on it

any help would be appreciated.

if someone lives in melbourne / central florida want to help me out too that will be freaking awesome

try cleaning off the battery posts, and hope for some luck.
might have popped a fuse too, so check those...

first thing in the morning : check fuse, no luck
assume there are 6 under the hood, and a whole bunch under the driver side dash

battery connection : good & tight

what else cound it be

p.s. when i was driving the car i made sure it was running for at least 20 minute before i rev it up.

oh and when i heard something blown i feel something pretty major, and the car gone unstable for a while

man ... i thought the N/A is reliable ...

When you clean the battery terminals you use backing soda and water mixed together in a paste. And also use a wire brush or something. That will assure that it gets good contact, just because it looks clean and tight, doesn't mean it has good contact.

Also, it sounds like you shorted something out. And since the starter isn't working, and you heard a pop, and smell a burning. It may be the main hot wire that goes to your starter, has gotten the rubber insulation coating worn off the out side, and it touched another wire and arked.

Is your battery going dead? What does your voltage gauge read?

Thanks, I've hit it for the second time

Also, I don't know if you will be able to really see anything, because pretty much all the wires are in a couple different major harness's.

But you should inspect the harnesses were you can, and just look for spots were it has melted, or burnt.

He was compareing it to a turbo 7, which is useually a little more expensive to run.

The lack of a tach usually means the trail coils are not firing anymore. Usually, not always. That could just be a bad contact at the back of the cluster also.

Rapid clicking usually means a bad connection or low battery voltage because of ????? who knows. Alternator? Is your alternator belt still there?????? Or did it break and fall off?

ok
i push started it
it was running fine around the neighborhood
everything seems normal including the RPM guage
so i decided to take it for a spin (no higher rpm than 4000), all in a sudden the RPM guage gone crazy again, the car didnt feel as unstable as first time tho

i dont have a heavy duty jack in my house so i couldnt look underneth yet

and all the belts theres seems fine
nothing unusual under the hood

push start it the second time, drove it to my friend's place, its running hotter than evar. usually even the hottest day i rev it up the temp guage only goes up to 1/4, but yesterday it running around between 1/2 & 3/4 whole time.
I let it idle a bit b4 i turn it off, i think theres a blown seal or something coz its smoking, the smoke's weird tho, came out under the car (passenger side), but no smoke under the hood

You have a lose connection somewhere. Check around the trailing coils as HAILERs suggested, and CLEAN all major connections (batteries, grounds, fuse box, etc.) Intermittant ignition switch can produce similar symptoms as well.
